———————————————————–
Yesterday, firefighters fought several challenging battles against the August Complex. The fire forced new evacuations to the northeast in the Forest Glen area along Hwy 36. And new evacuations to the southwest in the Eden Valley area of Mendocino County.
The massive behemoth of a fire is now 755,603 acres and 30% contained. All of that containment though is on the eastern side of the fire and away from Humboldt, Trinity and Mendocino Counties.
Winds pushed the fire north yesterday. The northern part of the fire had spotting that jumped a mile to a mile and a half in front of the fire.
Areas to watch today are the Ruth Lake to Forest Glen area, the Zenia and Kettenpom area, and down in the southwest toe of the fire burning in Mendocino County, the Eden Valley area.
A bit of good news is that firefighters are hopeful that the area around Covelo may be the first area on the west side of the fire to get a black containment line. The fire continues to stay east of the Main Stem of the Eel River and out of Humboldt County.
The Plan:
Below is this morning’s briefing in Ukiah which looks from north to south on the west side of the August Fire.
The Weather:
In Mendocino County the temperatures could reach 90 degrees but mostly the temperature in the areas of the fire, from the top to the bottom, will be low seventies to low eighties. Winds could gust as high as 17 mph over parts of the fire. Mostly the wind will be coming from the south and southwest so in general the fire will move to the north and northeast.
The Smoke:
Less smoke today which is good for lungs and allows aircraft to fight the fire but it allows sun to heat the vegetation and makes the fire grow faster.

Looks like its going straight to the pines without help from fire fighter.
24hour shifts with grueling work in dangerous conditions!! Whew!! & A HUGE THANK YOU!!!
A giant heart felt THANK YOU to our brave men and women firefighters trying to stop all the fires. Your tireless work, up to 4 days or more straight without hardly any food or rest to just completely amazes me. Some of you have even lost your own homes while trying to protect other homes. Your are all HEROS!!! Please stay safe, and God Bless each one of you.
Guest, I was referring to your comment about wanting out to go to the store, but if you did they would not let you back in. I believe you called the CHP officer and a**hole. People who run down our law enforcement officers are the true a**holes! You fit that perfectly. Your 22 years of firefighting, was that with your wood stove? Cut the law enforcement folks a break OK? You can call me an a**hole, and I could care less. My comment about our hero firefighters still stands. Put on a CALFIRE uniform and you can be a hero also. You said your piece and I said mine. Let’s just put it to rest friend.
Why are you calling our volunteer firefighters “dumb assholes”?
The ops map is very hard to read with all the colors.
The rains we’ve been praying for are still coming, but each day sees them downgraded more and more. For areas near the fire like Zenia it is now a one day event with minimal moisture expected. Time to step up the prayers and bring home the rain.
“It is looking increasingly likely that amounts will be much lower south of Del Norte, with portions of southern interior Humboldt and Trinity possibly seeing only trace rainfall amounts late this week from
stray showers.”
Rain would be lovely, but even just the higher humidity is going to help a lot. Fire feeds on oxygen molecules, we all know that from 6th grade science class. Oxygen molecules saturated with water are not going to fuel the fire to burn hotter, higher or further. They will help slow it down. Moisture!! Bring it!!!
Ok. It’s time for US to bring the rains in. Think it, pray it, visualize it, FEEL IT – ALL OF US! – NOW AND OFTEN! Yes, I am yelling!
Quick, everyone… Wash your car!
Kym is it possible to make donation to my VFD electronically it would be alderpoint. Thanks
I don’t know. All I have is their snail mail:

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the men & women putting their lives on HOLD to fight the wildfires.
