[Update] Search Underway at Property Where Missing SoHum Woman Leanne Eller Last Lived

A large law enforcement search team returned to a remote Southern Humboldt property Wednesday morning, nearly nine years after 40-year-old Leanne Eller disappeared from the area.

At least 11 law enforcement vehicles, including five marked units, are on a property off Twin Trees Road south of Benbow, where Eller was living when she vanished in the summer of 2017.

According to Mike Fridley, former Humboldt County Sheriff’s lieutenant and current cold case investigator, the search team has brought five dogs to assist today. When asked whether cadaver dogs were being used, Fridley said only that five dogs were participating in the operation.

Fridley said the search was taking place with the cooperation of the property’s current owners.

“The new property owners gave permission to search,” he explained when asked whether investigators had received a tip that led them back to the location.

The activity marks a significant development in a case that has lingered unanswered for nearly a decade.

Redheaded Blackbelt first reported Eller missing on July 31, 2017, after family members began distributing posters throughout Southern Humboldt. At the time, her mother had just filed a missing person report with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

According to information provided by her brother, Ricky Loyd, at the time, Eller had been living on the Twin Trees Road property for approximately two years before she disappeared. Family members became concerned after they had not heard from her for roughly six weeks, an unusually long period of silence.

Loyd said at the time that Eller’s boyfriend contacted her mother and reported that Eller had left the property more than a week earlier. Family members were troubled by reports that she had apparently departed while leaving behind most of her belongings.

Eller was described as approximately 5-foot-3 or 5-foot-4, weighing about 130 pounds, with ash-brown dyed hair cut just below shoulder length.

For community members who have spent nearly nine years without answers, however, the sight of investigators combing through the property where Eller was last known to be living represents movement in a case that has remained unresolved for nearly a decade.

Our hearts are with those that loved her as they await the result of the search today.

Update: Investigator Fridley told Redheaded Blackbelt that the search of the Twin Trees Road property has concluded. Eller was not found.

I just pray for her and her family that the search teams will locate her remains. It is possible that she passed in another area nowhere close to where they are looking. If she is deceased, may she RIP.

Here is a link to the previous, original Redheaded Blackbelt article…

And here is a link to a particular comment from that nearly 9 year old article, that I found sort of relevant and informative…

It may have been from one of her neighbors…

“As a resident of Twin Trees rd I have given her and her boyfriend rides to and from town. They were usually super drunk. They have told me stories about going on hikes on schofield peak and getting lost for days. Usually ending up hiking down to the river and walking back to the road. Also another “neighbor” is being investigated for human trafficking. I hope she is found safe but the possibilities are not good.”

Thank you for the link! I’m surprised that Kym did not provide that at the bottom of the article- she usually does a great job of tying articles together. I missed this news first time around so I just read the article and comments. Does anybody know the name of the boyfriend?? Can you please state it? Not shading but I am wondering hard….Is he still considered a “victim” here?! 9 years later and he never got disappeared so I’m not sure he ever was a “victim”. He’s the last person who saw her alive so he’s definitely a POI (Person of Interest) and without accusing him he should be named…Not much has changed in Humboldt in that people and neighbors are more comfortable tying together seemingly disparate sightings and memories with each other than they are with talking to the police. The community knows much more about most stuff than the cops ever will…

You’re welcome, Farce…

Here is a screenshot of Schofield Peak, and it’s vicinity to Twin Trees Road….

Twin Trees Road begins near where the “Benbow Viaduct” emblem is shown…

Might have to tap on screenshot…

Lots of places to get lost or disappear off of Twin Trees Road…

It’s all downhill to the river all along it…

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT IT TOOK THEM THIS LONG TO SEARCH THE PROPERTY WHERE SHE LIVED!??!?
I was good friends with LeAnne. I met her in September 2012 at the Deerhorn in Phillipsville where she worked. When she put in her notice to quit working there I’m the one she told to apply, and I got the position. I used to live in Pville, and her and I became good friends. I still remember her laugh! She always cracked me up! My heart broke when I heard what happened. It will doesn’t make any sense to me how this could have happened…
I saw her right before she went missing!
The date from when we last saw each other don’t match up from when her family last spoke to her, and was reported missing. It might not sound like much, but I’m not the one investigating and all I want is for her family and friends to have closure or something.
LeAnne deserves this.

Law enforcement doesn’t earn their pay. And their “investigations don’t go anywhere. Humboldt police are incompetant.
