Drivers Bypassing Road Signs Are Setting Back the Final Day of Redwood Drive Work

crew laying down microfiber seal (slurry seal) on roadway.County road crews are wrapping up the final day of micro-surfacing work on Redwood Drive today, but they need the public’s help to get it done.

Workers say drivers have been going around closure signs and driving over freshly laid surface before it cures — damaging the new material and forcing crews to redo sections of the work. Every bypass adds time to a project that’s already in its final hours.

County Roads is asking drivers to use Highway 101 when traveling between Garberville and Redway today while crews finish up work on Redwood Drive.

The multi-day project, funded by Measure O — the local road funding measure approved by Humboldt County voters — has included work on Redwood Drive, Redway Drive, Bear Canyon Road, Melville Road, and Church Street since late last week.

Just call the CHP and report the problem before one of the workers is injured or killed. Let the law deal with these braindead drivers!

Martin, for once we’re in total agreement. And the CHP office is right there. I sure hope they provide safety for workers and adequate response to entitled idiots who ignore barricades.

Glad we agree Onlooker. I guess they should have law enforcement at all of these projects.

The CHP has a program that they work with CalTrans called COZEEP(construction zone enhanced enforcement program that pays off-duty officers to patrol active highway work zones with lights on, forcing drivers to slow down and to protect the workers on the highways. Maybe the county could utilize a program like that with off-duty deputies.
