[UPDATE 11:03 p.m.: Scanner Says Fire at Zenia Lake Mountain Rd.] Fire Forcing Evacuations in Three Forks, South of Ruth Lake

EvacuateThe tiny community of Three Forks in southwestern Trinity County near Ruth Lake is being evacuated. Deputies from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and firefighters from multiple departments are being sent to the area for structure protection and to help residents evacuate safely.

We spoke to the Trinity County Office of Emergency Services this morning and the Hopkins Fire which is the north part of the August Complex “is moving westerly” and is threatening the community.

Community members should evacuate through Upper Mad River Road to Ruth and Mad River, OES told us.

According to second hand information from a resident in the area, the fire is coming over Swim Ridge over the Yolla Bolly Mountains.

The US Forest Service is asking Southern Trinity Fire and Zenia Fire and others to meet at 501 and AA bridge to being evacuations and structure protection, according to the scanner.

The Trinity County Office of Emergency Services told us that they had only been notified a few minutes before 9 a.m. of the situation and have not yet set up a Evacuation Center. We will update you when we get information on where that is.

UPDATE 9:27 a.m.: Trinity County Sheriff Tim Saxon tells us, “Deputies are enroute to the area. We issued a Code Red notification for a Mandatory Evacuation of a ten mile radius of Three Forks.”

UPDATE 9:30 a.m.: Emergency personnel on the scanner report that “they are evacuating Horse Ridge Lookout east of Ruth.”

UPDATE 10:06 a.m.: Emergency personnel on the scanner are requesting reverse 911 calls. Here’s the clip of man naming the parameters.

UPDATE 2:21 p.m.: Press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office at 12:40 p.m.:

The Hopkins Fire which is the northwest part of the August Complex Fire is moving in a westerly direction. The community of Three Forks, in Ruth, CA, is under mandatory evacuations, including Horse Ridge Road to Travis Ranch Road.
Multiple Trinity County agencies to include Sheriff’s Deputies, Marshals, and USFS Law Enforcement Officers are responding to the area to assist residents with evacuations. A temporary evacuation point has been established at Mad River High School located at 600 Van Duzen Road.
The Trinity County Office of Emergency Services is advising people to use Upper Mad River Road to Ruth and Mad River for evacuation.
For any questions please contact the T. C. Office of Emergency Services Manager, Ed Prestley at (530)623-1116.

UPDATE 3:12 p.m.: Southern Trinity Area Rescue posted this,

Horse Ridge Lookout being evacuated: “What an untraditional way to get our Bear Grass patch burnt for harvesting!” There goes Papa Jack’s Mountain Blackcap (for skillet shortcake) patch too. Beautiful country out there blowing up in smoke. Firefighters BE SAFE!!!

You can say that again, this fire is running at this point and is about to explode with the incoming high winds. If it crosses the North Fork Eel River, Kettenpom/Kettenpom Valley, Zenia, and Hoaglin area will burn. If it continues across the main stem Eel River, there will be huge fires along Bell Springs Road. It still has a way to go to get to that point but it is still very possible, especially with incoming winds.

Good luck! The websites are nerdly confusing and seldom up to date. The satellite photo shows the wind switching to the north now so you are probably safe. There are spot fires between you and four corners rocks but up higher.

Swim ridge is not the yolla bollies. It’s in the mad drainage. The yolla bollies are the middle fork eel drainage.

The south fork of the Trinity River, the Mad River and the Van Duzen River all start in the Yolly Bollies. Not a time to spread wrong information Jeffersonian.

Well, then you might want to take Van Duzen off your list which never gets closer to the Yolla Bollies than Watts Lake.

I talked directly to the president of the Zenia Fire department and he said he has not received any such order.
However Kettenpalm area is now getting tagged to evacuate according to the owner of the Kettenpalm store.
We have yet to see any activity in Zenia are as far as law enforcement or forestry putting up evac notices. But I imagine if they are in Kettenpalm Zenia is next.

I would at least be ready, the fire is running westward directly towards the North Fork Eel River and the Kettenpom/Kettonpom Valley. It still has miles and miles to go but with incoming winds, there is no telling how far it will go. Especially since it just blew up.

I guess you aren’t watching what is happening out in Feather River, another potential Paradise situation there tonight, possible national headlines tomorrow. And Ashland, and the Bobcat in LA. In 2007 it was 2 weeks before we got the 3 fires near me staffed…with 3 people and one dozer and we were at 7000acres at that point. If anyone thinks 911 is available right now they are full of shit. Put any ignition source away for the next 2 months and get ready to save your own.

I started cruzing the alert fire cams in the north state tonight, the oregon mountain showed what i thought was a fire cresting the ridge by bully choop. It wasn’t, it was the illuminated plume form the fire in the feather river canyon all the way accross the valley diagonally, 110 miles away. At night. Using a camera on the other side of the valley aimed at trinity, most of the horizon it framed was aglow from the salmon/ red fire. Many of the northstate cameras caught illuminated plumes or a glowing horizon. This, for some reason, really sunk in and got under my skin. It is surreal, like the red wine colored light in some of the photos. This is different.

It already burned my friends cabin down south of Ruth. He just bought it. No insurance. Probably because they wanted $5000 a year like my neighbors policy.

Because planes and choppers do not put out fire. Personal and equipment on the ground do. Aerial resources are to support and slow the spread temporarily.

And on a fire of this intensity it would be a proverbial drop in a bucket.

Ruth being evacuated as fire has moved over the ridge rapidly. Fire is currently moving towards Ruth from the south end. When we left just over an hour ago it was approaching Ruth Store.
This fire is no joke- watching how fast it came roaring over that ridge with incredible winds was unbelievable.

Obviously it is still standing from your info. I hope it doesn’t get worse out there! Kettenpom is right in the path of the fire now.

Last I saw before the interactive map went down is that it had not reached Ruth Zenia road in the Hettenshaw valley yet. However, Zenia/Kettenpom/Kettenpom Valley/Hoaglin/Long Ridge are all on fire right now. It is working down the eastern slope to the main stem Eel River. Won’t be long before it crosses the river and heads up to Bell Springs Road.

I take that back about Zenia, that fire hasn’t reached it yet but it is close and immediately to the south/southeast/east of Kettenpom. Kettenpom Valley/Hoaglin is in the fire.
