Lodena Louise Tidwell, a lifelong Arcata resident, devoted wife, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at 94, surrounded by family and the Christian music she loved.

“She was especially known for the weekly luncheon fashion shows at the Red Lion, which reflected her flair for style and her gift for turning fashion into a fun and memorable experience for the community.”

“Peter had many accomplishments in his life, as a mentor, as an accomplished pianist and organist in his teenage years, USPS union representative, as a chief petty officer in the Navy, and achieving an AA degree from Humboldt State University.”

“He returned to Humboldt County and worked as an advertisement salesman for radio and newspaper and an assistant editor for Sensi Magazine. He then went back to the land and raised a produce garden and enjoyed selling at the local Farmers Markets.”

A Whale Gulch resident since 1974, Gary Cox built his own home, tended his garden, and shared his love of the land and lens with his community until his passing in April at age 84.

“From GG-Ma, we learned the value of hard work, how to clean a fish, and the simple joy of sneaking a taste of frosting from the fridge when she wasn’t looking. Most importantly, we learned what it means to show up—to show up for family without asking why, and to help those in need without questioning whether they deserve it.”

A Minnesota-born woman who made Eureka her home for more than 70 years, Clara Bakke lived a life centered on family, flowers, and feeding the people she loved.
