According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch log, a black BMW struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. A witness reported that at least three CHP units responded Code 3—with lights and sirens—from the Garberville area.
A short time later, officers located and stopped a vehicle believed to be involved. CHP dispatch traffic at 7:08 a.m. indicated an officer had visual contact with the northbound vehicle near Myers Flat before advising it had been stopped. By about 7:25 a.m., scanner traffic indicated a suspect had been detained.
Scanner traffic indicated the helicopter’s landing zone was established at the South Fork High School athletic field. However, REACH declined due to weather.
The extent of the pedestrian’s injuries has not yet been released, and the California Highway Patrol has not released details about what led up to the collision.
A social media post about the incident state that the driver punched a man’s dog before striking the man with the vehicle and fleeing northbound in the black BMW. Those accounts have not been independently confirmed by authorities. However, CHP dispatch traffic does confirm that a black BMW was reported to have struck a pedestrian before leaving the scene, and scanner traffic indicates officers later stopped a suspect vehicle near Hidden Springs Road.
A photograph shared on social media appears to show Miranda Fire personnel treating an injured man at the scene. Redheaded Blackbelt has requested permission from the photographer to publish the image.
This is a developing story. More information will be added as it becomes available.

Fleeing the scene seems to be the norm. Happens everywhere.
The problem could be solved by adding more penalties to the crime. Mega fines, mandatory prison, loss of driving privileges, etc, etc.
Impound / crush the vehicle
That sounds less like a hit-and-run and more like assault with a deadly weapon.
This better be a self defense issue. Punching a dog is very uncool.
I’d really like to see that photo. The link brings us to Hey Garberville… on Facebook, but i don’t see anything about Miranda Fire treating an injured man on there.
Yup, i heard you’re trying to get permission to post the image here, but meantime, if the link could go to it, that would be great.
That must be the photo at the top. Thank you! I wanted to see the BMW but of course since the vehicle had fled, it’s not in the photo with the injured man.
Hope that pedestrian and his dog will be okay!
