After the Fireworks Fade, Crescent City’s Beaches Need Community Support

Every Independence Day, thousands gather along Crescent City’s shoreline to celebrate. But when the festivities end, our beaches are left with the lasting impact of litter and firework debris.

On July 5, Redwood Parks Conservancy (RPC) invites community members to come together for the annual 5th of July Beach Clean-Up, a volunteer effort dedicated to restoring the beauty of our coastline and protecting the wildlife and marine ecosystems that depend on it.

Last year, volunteers removed more than 2,300 pounds of trash and debris from local beaches. This year, with thousands of visitors expected over the holiday weekend, the need is greater than ever.

“Every person who shows up on July 5 sends a powerful message that our coast is worth caring for,” said Autumn Subers, Volunteer and Transportation Director at RPC. “This is an opportunity to turn appreciation into action and ensure that future generations can enjoy the same beautiful beaches we cherish today.”

In partnership with California State Parks, the National Park Service, Smith River Alliance, CalTrans, and the Del Norte Solid Waste Authority, volunteers will help remove litter from local beaches and prevent debris from reaching the ocean.

More than a cleanup, the event is a chance for neighbors, families, and visitors to unite around a shared purpose: protecting a place that belongs to all of us. Join us on July 5 and help leave behind something better than footprints—a cleaner, healthier coastline for generations to come.
