Signs and Demonstrators Line 5th Street in Eureka for ‘No Kings’ Protest; As Crowds Grow, Roads Close

A lively crowd protests the Trump administrations policies in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse today. [Video by Ryan Hutson]

Hundreds of people are lining Highway 101/5th Street in Eureka today as part of the international “No Kings” protests demonstrating against the policies of President Donald Trump and his administration.

From one vantage point along 5th Street, hundreds of people were visible along a single block, with demonstrators stretching down both sides of the roadway. Our reporter Ryan Hutson on scene said, “I counted 150 people walking on one side of the block on my way to the courthouse so I’m not even there yet. We are talking easily over 1,000.”

The event, scheduled from 12 to 2 p.m., includes planned speeches, live music, and a food drive. The sound of a band near the courthouse pulses as the crowd continues to gather.

Traffic in the area is significantly impacted. Law enforcement has shut down access at several streets near the courthouse, including blocking traffic on H and I streets at the 6th Street intersection to prevent vehicles from converging onto 5th Street. Eighth Street is at the same intersections. While demonstrators are largely staying on sidewalks, congestion has built up on surrounding roadways.

Safety marshals wearing neon vests are stationed along the route, using radios to coordinate and help guide people safely across intersections.

Organizers of the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations have said more than 3,100 events were planned across all 50 states, with millions expected to participate.

It appears you can get a lot of geriatrics to show up if you offer them $100 and some ice cream. Do any of these people know why they’re there?

Seriously, chicken fried brain ? Kym says we aren’t supposed to insult one another…. first thing I read is your dirty dirty deed.

Really brings down the vibes.

It is that sort of gross characterization that has divided our country and community.

Remember, your neighbor or the 77 million, with a different viewpoint is actually what makes being an American so special! You’re missing the plot by a mile….

Yeah, that’s right! Real Americans go out to protest King Charles and the 17 other kings ruling in the world. There’s no room for monarchy in today’s day and age. And if you ain’t a real American, you might as well move to one of the 43 countries that have a monarchy. I always tell people, if America is so bad, go move to someplace better.! if I didn’t have to work today, I would have been out there supporting our president and protesting against kings too!

It what appear these Americans do not know American history. Our forefathers and developers of this country and Constitution left the knighthood of England under a King’s realm to establish a country not controlled by a king or one entity. Thus our Constitution and government is structured so that not one person can make a decision. It takes multiple parts of the government to make a decision come out to become law.

True… Honestly, I can’t understand why the “No Kings” folks are angry with Trump for simply enforcing laws that were passed by the House and the Senate.

Can someone please make it make sense?

Simply put, he isn’t enforcing the laws on the books, he’s ignoring the laws (and the Constitution) to do whatever the white Christian nationalists whispering in his ears tell him to do.

I could but the list would be so long that Kym’s site would likely crash. But for a surrogate measure, look at the number of court cases filed against the Trump administration for violation of the law.

As of January there had been about 530 cases filed, many resulting in preliminary injunctions, court orders, etc. some of which he then ignored. Only about 32 of those cases had been decided so far and he lost 24 of them. Literally hundreds of federal judges have made preliminary findings that the administration has broken the law. Repeatedly.

To compare, there were only 133 cases filed against the Biden administration in 4 years and Obama had around 40 cases filed against his administration in 8 years.

Seems to me “real Americans” would not want to be protesting and giving our adversaries hope to conquer us. They look at the people with professional signs protesting our President and think we are just like all the third world countries on the globe: weak and easily conquered. They are probably plotting the takeover and “regime change” as we speak.

Protest if you want to but in the US it takes a majority to make a change in government. Tens of thousands does not a majority make. The end result is you all feel good but you really don’t accomplish anything.

Real Americans respect the office of the presidency which is why you did not see any organized protests against “auto pen” who had no idea where he was or what he was doing. I did not hate Biden, but I definitely knew he wasn’t up to the job.

The result of having no one in charge was a slaughter of innocents in Israel, a botched withdrawal in Afghanistan, giving the Russians permission to invade Ukraine and Iran permission to go ahead with their enrichment program so they could have nuclear capability.

No matter how many times we hear the spin that we were at peace and the economy was great from 2021-2024, we Americans all lived the reality of inflation out of control and unrest around the world. Hating on a President is not being a “real American” and it certainly doesn’t accomplish anything with the exception of a lot of noise that, in the end, signifies nothing at all.

Sounds like, according to you, a person has to be Real Stupid to also qualify as what you deem to be a Real American. I’m glad we have you, Ms. Captain America, to tell us who gets to be a Real American and who isn’t. Maybe it’s time for me to be told to leave the country if I don’t like it, especially considering I can just go wherever I want in the world and enter any country I feel like and live there in the way that the US bombs and invades whatever countries it feels like. Maybe if the US didn’t keep destabilizing many countries around the world, there would be theoretical countries worth fantasizing about immigrating to, but as it is, the US bombs a lot of countries or starts conflicts in regions that may be worth considering. BUILD THE WALL, keep us prisoners. Oh, and I liked your Israel first stance, nice touch, especially throwing that in with the Real American propaganda.

With over 3,000 protests nationwide and millons attending that’s a lot of $100 dollar bills and ice cream.
Paying in $100 dollar bills is going to be a problem when Trump’s name starts appearing on them, nobody will accept them because they will think they are as fake as Trump is.

It’s not a matter of supporting Trump. It’s never been for most of the public. He only won because the leftist extremists ran the opposing party into the ground and made themselves scarier than Trump.

As Carville once in famously put it “It’s the economy, stupid.” The Democrats ran such a poor candidate and in such a chaotic way that all it took was the timing of the inevitable inflation caused by indiscriminate spending to coincide with the election for Trump to win.

So don’t rejoice too much. It’s way to late for that foolishness. It’s not a positive for the left to such an increase in protesters. It’s the economy stupid.

Probably true. I knew several people who voted for Trump foremost as a rejection of the DEM party. Unfortunately the DEM party never took any of this to heart and has remained stubbornly steadfast in their dysfunction- choosing to focus on hate, name-calling and opposition to everything the President says or does. I also don’t like Trump but I cannot get behind these protests as they are being used primarily to bolster the DEM party…and the DEM party stands for what? Gotta do better than Anti-Trump anger to get my support….neither party yet is caring about the simple citizen workingman…

So you spend years owning the libs for fun, give us Donald Trump as president, and now say all happened because the libs are scarier than Trump.

The stock market just had it’s fifth disastrous week in a row. Trump has been in office for a year this time, and it is still Biden’s fault.

Waiter, check please.

Yabut

Congratulations. That is exactly what I’m saying.

But still even reading that, saying in writing, there is a lack of connecting the dots. If liberals had managed to select a candidate that was not so extreme, Trump would not have won. If they had not condemned people clearly seeing Biden’s dementia as supporting Trump, Trump would not have won. Even if they had bothered to run a convention with just the ordinary level of political graft, Trump would not have won.

But, as you still see criticizing the left for their gross ineptitude as supporting Trump, nothing has been learned. The left will rejoice without accepting blame. They will repeat the same stupidity.

What it is, and has been long before Trump won his first election, iscalling attention to the truculent left for making a man clearly too politically unsuitable look like an option because their own politics are soo bad.

Talking about the stock market does not divert. It is not Biden that is to blame. It is the left, especially the arrogant Pfogressives, who are to blame, who now apparently believe the avalanche they started ten years ago is not responsible for today’s damage.

  • Biden oversaw historically low unemployment, strong job growth, and rising real wages, especially for low-paid and Black workers.
  • Trump’s first year shows slower job creation, rising unemployment, and weaker labor market indicators.
  • GDP growth remained solid under Biden, while early Trump-era growth has been erratic, including a quarterly contraction.
  • Inflation was falling under Biden, but tariffs and policy shifts under Trump contributed to renewed price pressures.
  • Factory construction surged under Biden due to infrastructure, CHIPS, and clean energy legislation but slowed sharply under Trump.
  • Biden handed Trump the strongest economy in decades; early Trump policies have shown signs of weakening it.

Maybe you forgot that Biden put everyone in the poor house with his inflation nightmare feeding my family tripled thanks to him that is hard to forget. While im not excited about the war with Iran I recognize that it was inevitable as they were at war with us already and if they had the time to go nuclear it would be much worse. As for the claim it will be worse than Iraq will you admit your wrong when that prediction is wrong as per usual? Probably not. The economy Trump inherited was not strong maybe you didnt see that all those record job reports under Biden were revised way down and the only people getting jobs at that time were illegals not Americans but maybe your ok with that. Trump won with a mandate thats democracy right? Or only when your side wins

Trump inherited a very stong economy from Biden.
Inflation dipped as low as 2.4% in September 2024, and the Biden administration oversaw a period of record job growth and record low unemployment.

Job growth under Trump has collapsed, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development is forecasting that inflation may exceed 4% this year.
https://www.ft.com/content/e8bcac46-eba1-4985-be31-fc913186895f?syn-25a6b1a6=1

And, Trump was elected with less than 50% of the popular vote.
That’s hardly a mandate.

Biden had the worst inflation in 50 years and the market went through a 2 year -20% correction. Inflation rate IS currently at 2.4%, giving Biden credit for that after having it at 9% is insane gaslighting. How about inflation never exceeding 3% under Trump?? Unemployment rate is still near historic lows.
You can twist the context all you want and use “forecasts” instead of what has objectively happened, but the data is not on your side, Jebs.

The last time it was below 4.00 in California was 2019, then Gavin stepped in and we began paying the price for his scams, including the tab for illegal aliens, precipitating a lower standard of living for all.

The “King” exercised his conniving lately, granted ‘twas always part of the plan:
He had plenty of Pentagon and US Intel Agency analysis indicating if he attacked Iran, the latter would effectively destabilize the Persian Gulf petroleum industry. Oh no, where will the world turn for oil & LNG?! To Trump’s expanding US petroleum industry friends, among his biggest donors & backers, and, to Russia. Recall, the King conveniently bagged Venezuela petrochemicals (and minerals) in advance, and had kicked open the door further to Alaska’s petrochemicals. The US already glutted, the name of his game is “exports”.

What is the population of humboldt? Around 200,000 ? So a thousand people, one 20th of the population, should get their way? And that passes for democracy these days? What ever I get not liking Trump. He is a flawed individual, but I really don’t think it’s as bad as they make it out to be. PROTEST THE HIGH SPEED RAIL that I could get behind. Still, it is a bigger protest then I thought it would be.

Remember Neil Young at the Muni? Santana too? Those were about 3000 people big. And people paid to be there. So…I guess this was maybe as big as the Neil Young show. Or the Santana show. But not as big as Willie Nelson. Either show. Not even close. So…not that big really in perspective, especially when you count in how spread out it was all over the county…just some people yelling and patting themselves on their backs because …ummm…what did they do again? Hold up signs and block traffic for 2 whole hours?

For every protester on the street there are many more citizens just as concerned but not present on the street.

Politicians have long known that once you get close to 3% of the population physically participating in dissent in the streets they will have very real problems moving their agendas forward and the next elections will not work out well for them.

We’ll see what the national protest #s are soon.
Last October’s protests were estimated at near 7million, >2% of the US population.
That raises a lot of eyebrows in the politician class.

This lame duck pres will very likely get completely boxed in come November.

High speed rail is debacle but we have much bigger and much more fundamental problems in this country right now…like blatant authoritarianism and unequal representation under the law.

and African Americans; 15%
and Hispanics; 24%

Power to the people (slogan) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_to_the_people_(slogan)

During the 1960s in the United States, young people began speaking and writing this phrase as a form of rebellion against what they perceived as oppression by the older generation, especially The Establishment. The Black Panthers used the slogan “All Power to the People” to protest the rich, ruling class domination of society.[1] Pro-democracy students used it to protest American involvement in the Vietnam War.

Hint:

Stock market tanked. Seniors saw their retirement funds go away.
Fuel prices reversed tanked. (A pun ?) (Both Trump and Newsomites)
Their ‘government’ (both sides) is firmly under the control of a foreign power.

People (will soon) realize… there really is no choice.

LOL…I was at the one here in town. Then I went to the library to print off the last schedule for our 1040 (my printer stopped working in the midst of this). I will soon write a check for a shitton of money. I know I am not the only one.

I always have to wonder why some people’s first go to is a version of the “welfare queen” crap.

Personal opinion here, but it seems like people are sitting here judging others and saying we should do research before protesting for their beliefs. If you want others to listen to you then you probably shouldn’t insult them, and you yourself should give proof to your “research”. We learned how to have CONVERSATIONS as children, and you just sound like children when you argure someone’s beliefs through a comment section, instead of show up to the protest and start a CIVIL conversation with people you dont agree with. This isnt left, this isnt right, every side is corrupt, every side needs a revolution. I for one know I dont like high gas prices, wars we have nothing to do with (the UN should do their job if thats needed), abortion and the rights of woman and trans people being stripped away, and struggling to make ends meet. Love, peace, and freedom of speech to all.

Thank you.

The USA is a country where the Bill of Rights gives us freedom of speech. That’s what thousands of us were doing today protesting Trump and his authoritarian unjust administration here in Eureka & everywhere else. No ice crream, no payoff, just protest pure and pure.
By the way, Trump has AI himself: Artificial Intelligence he tries to pass off as brains.

Ignoring the inevitable abundance of distracting and irrelevant political comments below, is the substance of news reports. Greater than 1000 attendance? Seriously? It was packed so dense at the peak around 1pm, it took just 10 seconds to count off at least 100 people in roughly 30′ of sidewalk. That times between 3-4 blocks, both sides packed with the same amount, plus the deep grouping at the courthouse surrounding the band led me to conclude that attendance was almost certainly the highest yet since Jan2025, and very likely above 4000, perhaps 5000. I would hope news outlets would take the time to try and estimate an accurate range in attendance, and should clearly qualify any estimate they make. Like it or not, much of the importance of these protests is the public perception of the attendance, and this one was big, due to the recent inept and dangerous instigation of war, and the increasingly inept governance of this country.

Wow I posted facts about this movement and its dark money. Why were they removed? Why are the same people who believe in Communism the ones on the streets protesting? 🤔 Still wondering why Balckbelt removed unless they believe in Communism.

Oh its communism.
Thats why it’s hard to get a decent protest paycheck unless you’re an establishment aparatcheck.
We’re having a fantastic Patriots’Parade to celebrate the Land Phase of Operation Epcot Furry, and the great outlook for gas prices! Just as soon as I get back from CPAC I’ll be sending out the emails!!! I think we can get some funding from Israel actually for ours, ya know, for potato salad from Costco and some pro shah Iranians. Think about snacks!

Dems saying Trump is king as they keep the government partially closed to fight for their illegal alien constituents. I would prefer the roads to be open instead of seeing paid protesters just like I would prefer the dems to prioritize Americans over illegals. All they got is trump bad there policy is unpopular and not to mention all the fraud coming to light that dems either facilitate for kick backs or so incompetent didnt know either way not good.

Imagine a protest against the fraud, insider trading, child molestation and corruption in BOTH parties?! THAT would be awesome and we could all be there together…maybe even move the dial in a meaningful direction! But…no we must fight for our team and our team alone LOL

So proud of my fellow Humboldtians! Let us pray that this heralds the end of anti democracy. I don’t grok the Palestinian flags or the signs with lies about Israel. That has nothing to do with Duck L’Orange (except that he’s the liar in chief and liars will be liars). But the Far, Far Left has always attempted to co-opt legitimate protest, going back to the Viet Nam war.
