Learn About Arcata’s Residential Rental Inspection Program
This is a press release from the City of Arcata:
The City of Arcata Building Division invites the community to attend a public meeting on the Residential Rental Inspection Program (RRIP) to learn about the program and review the division’s recommended changes before they are presented to the Arcata City Council.
The purpose of the RRIP is to proactively identify substandard residential buildings and dwelling units and to ensure the rehabilitation or removal of those units that do not meet minimum building code and housing code standards or are not safe to occupy. The intention is that structures be required to be maintained at the level consistent with the codes of the period in which they were constructed. The RRIP is further intended to preserve and enhance the quality of life for residents living in such rental residential buildings and dwelling units and the neighborhoods which host these structures.
The Arcata City Council has requested updates on this program annually. The Building Division’s recommended changes are based on the Council’s feedback at the most recent update as well as a few minor program improvements. The Council will hear these recommendations at the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 15.
To hear about these recommendations and ask questions, a public meeting on the program will be held at the D Street Neighborhood Center, 1301 D St. in Arcata, on Wednesday, June 24 from 4 – 5 p.m. All community members are invited to attend.
For more information on the RRIP, please visit the RRIP webpage or call (707) 825-2128.
