Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District to Reopen Tomorrow

Klamath-Trinity JOint Unified School District logoPress release from Klamath-Trinity Joint Unified School District:

To provide stability and continued support for our students, our schools will return to session tomorrow, Thursday, March 12.

We understand that the recent off-campus shooting has had a significant impact on our community. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. To help reassure students and families, there will be increased law enforcement presence on campus.

Students are encouraged to attend school tomorrow. However, we understand that some families may not feel ready to return. Absences will be excused for students who are unable to attend.

Schools will operate on a normal bell schedule, but the day will be structured with flexibility. Teachers and staff will focus on creating supportive classroom environments and meeting the emotional needs of students.

The district is partnering with several organizations to provide additional support for students and families, including the Hoopa Tribe, Yurok Tribe, Two Feathers, Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, and the Humboldt County Office of Education. These partners will be helping provide mental health services, additional staff support, and basic needs such as food and care for students.

We recognize that this is a difficult time for many members of our community. Our goal is to ensure that students feel safe, supported, and cared for as we return to school.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Department at (530) 625-4202 or the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Jacqueline McCullough

Superintendent

Things will calm down. Good move, Ms. McCullough. I’m sorry this happened to our neighbors in Hoopa.
