Humboldt Superior Court Warns Public About Increase in Jury Duty Scams
Press release from the Humboldt County Superior Court:
The Superior Court of California, County of Humboldt is alerting the public to an increase in reports of jury duty related scams targeting current, past, and prospective jurors.
Scammers often contact individuals by phone, email, or text message, falsely claiming they missed jury service or failed to respond to a jury summons. They may threaten fines, arrest warrants, or other legal consequences unless immediate payment or personal information is provided.
The Humboldt Superior Court wants the public to know that Jury Services staff will never ask current, past, or prospective jurors for:
Credit card numbers
Bank account information
Social Security numbers
Financial account information
Payment over the phone, by gift card, cryptocurrency, or electronic payment applications
If you receive a suspicious communication claiming to be from the Court, do not provide any personal or financial information. If you are unsure whether a jury related communication is legitimate, contact the Humboldt Superior Court Jury Office directly using the official contact information listed on the Court’s website.
Anyone who believes they have been targeted by a jury scam should report the incident to their local law enforcement agency. If personal or financial information has already been provided, contact your financial institution immediately.
