Prescribed Burn to Continue Near Ettersburg on Thursday

cal fire prescribed burnResidents in Southern Humboldt should expect to see smoke and increased fire activity for a second day as a prescribed burn near Ettersburg is scheduled to continue Thursday, weather and conditions permitting.

According to a Wednesday news release from CAL FIRE’s Humboldt-Del Norte Unit, crews plan to continue the professionally managed burn on approximately 15 acres of ranch land in the area of Wilder Ridge Road and French Ranch Road on Thursday, July 2.

The project is targeting invasive barb goatgrass as part of an ongoing vegetation management and hazardous fuels reduction effort. Officials said the prescribed fire is intended to improve the health of native plant communities, help control invasive plant species, enhance prairie habitat for wildlife, and reduce the risk of uncontrolled wildfires.

Residents can expect increased fire apparatus and support vehicle traffic in the area throughout the operation. Smoke will be visible, and temporary traffic control measures may be implemented. Officials are asking motorists to use caution when traveling through the area to help ensure the safety of both the public and fire personnel.
