[UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: 40 to 45 Acres] New Cedar Fire Burning in the Trinity Pines Spreading at ‘Dangerous’ Rate

A new wildfire was discovered northeast of Ruth Lake in the area of the Trinity Pines this afternoon while aircraft were already working on the Mountain Fire along Highway 36.

The new blaze was first reported around 2:45 p.m. and initially estimated at about 5 acres. According to Air Attack, the fire is burning with a dangerous rate of spread, threatening structures and carrying the potential to grow to 500 acres. Evacuations have been requested.

By late afternoon, Watch Duty was reporting the fire at 20 to 25 acres with a moderate to rapid rate of spread.

A full wildland fire response has been dispatched, with ground and air resources heading to the scene.

This is a developing situation, and information is subject to change as more details become available.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: The fire is burning near the intersection of Cedar Point Road and 30 N 30 Road. Currently, the fire is burning southwest rapidly.

UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: Shasta Trinity National Forest Service issued the following report on the fire:

Shasta-Trinity National Forest firefighters are responding to a wildfire south Post Mountain and north of State Route 36. The Cedar Fire is burning at a rapid to extreme rate of spread. It is currently 40-45 acres and spotting 1/2 mile ahead. More details will be provided as this incident evolves.

As of 5:15 pm on 9/2/2025 Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation orders for zones POM-378 and POM-377. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has issued evacuation warnings for the following zones POM-375, POM-379, POM-380, POM-386, and POM-387.
We’d like to remind the public to stay away from areas where firefighters are conducting operations, and to do their part in preventing new fires. Be sure you’re not dragging chains behind your vehicle and keep your tires properly inflated. Be sure to put out any campfires and never leave a campfire unattended.
