RV Burns to the Ground on Highway 36, Briefly Ignites Nearby Vegetation
An RV was destroyed by fire this afternoon on Highway 36 east of Forest Glen and southeast of Post Mountain in Trinity County after flames spread from the vehicle into surrounding vegetation. According to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident log, the fire was reported at approximately 12:46 p.m. near mile marker 25.5 on Highway 36. Scanner traffic indicated the fire spread into nearby vegetation, with one report estimating the fire at about one-quarter acre.
However, responding firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and later radio traffic reported the fire was limited to the vehicle and approximately one-tenth to one-quarter of an acre of vegetation.
At approximately 1:05 p.m., a caller reported having seen a white female about 40 minutes earlier near the burned RV with a different vehicle. It was unclear whether she was connected to the incident.
By early afternoon, a CHP officer requested a tow truck for what remained of the vehicle, describing the fifth-wheel RV as “burned to the ground” and suitable only for scrap. The officer advised that caution tape would be placed around the scene after firefighters completed their work to alert passing motorists.
Wiebe Trucking and Tow was dispatched to remove the burned trailer, with an estimated arrival time of 30 to 40 minutes.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
