As the sun rose this morning, firefighters were mopping up a structure fire in the Burr Valley area of Humboldt County, near Highway 36.
CAL FIRE’s Acting Public Information Officer, Chris Curtis, told Redheaded Blackbelt that crews were dispatched to the 39000 block of Highway 36 just before 3 a.m. on June 6. The initial report, received by the emergency communications center at 2:50 a.m., indicated a fire with popping sounds.
By 3:30 a.m., firefighters arrived on scene to find what the Incident Commander of the Burr Fire described as a fully involved structure fire with extension into nearby vegetation and downed power lines.
Three CAL FIRE engines and two engines from Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, along with a water tender from Rio Dell VFD and a hand crew from High Rock, responded to the incident. Crews were able to halt the fire’s forward progress just over an hour after the first unit arrived. The fire was contained to approximately 0.05 acres.
Mop-up was completed around 8 a.m., and crews have since been released from the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by CAL FIRE.
