According to Lt. Steve Knight of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department there has been a fire in the Hoopa area. A request from Hoopa Tribal Police was sent for deputies to assist with emergency evacuations. California Highway Patrol, Arcata Police, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department responded by sending officers to their aid. Knight believes the immediate threat is over.

According to a Cal Fire spokesperson a fire occurred behind the True Value store in Redway around 7 a.m. today. The spokesman said a large trash can out back was on fire. According to scanner traffic, a single wide mobile home on Johnson Lane east of Redcrest and east of the Eel River is being consumed by fire. KMUD News is reporting on their Facebook page that there is a structure fire near Carlotta.  The page states, “‘Structure fire with hay inside’ reportedly on fire in Carlotta area. Plane drops retardant.[Photo by Jackie Moody.] Scanner traffic and readers are reporting a vegetation fire near Rio Dell/Scotia around 7 p.m. Scanner traffic appears to be calling it the Ash Fire. There is at least one engine and two crews. A plane is dropping retardant.  A helicopter is on its way. Crews appear to be getting the blaze under control.

UPDATE 5:50 p.m.: According to a Cal Fire spokesperson, today’s fire occurred at a motorhome near Homestead Road north of Blocksburg. The fire spread into a small nearby structure.
