USS Milwaukee Shipwreck EXPOSED by Extreme Low Tide in Humboldt County

Dock’s latest Discover Humboldt episode gives viewers a look at the “USS Milwaukee Shipwreck.” Dock writes:

A negative low tide revealed one of the most fascinating hidden pieces of California history — the wreck of the USS Milwaukee on Samoa Beach in Humboldt County, California.

In this episode of the Humboldt Axe YouTube channel, I head out to the beaches near Samoa to explore the remains of the USS Milwaukee, a massive U.S. Navy cruiser that ran aground in 1917 during a rescue attempt involving the H-3 submarine during World War I.

During an extreme negative tide, pieces of the wreck and even sections of the old salvage pier become visible beneath the sand and surf. This is one of Humboldt County’s most mysterious and historic coastal sites.
