Discover Humboldt: ‘Lost Town of Dyerville’

Dock’s latest Discover Humboldt episode gives viewers a look at the “Lost Town of Dyerville.” Dock writes:

Today I stopped along the Avenue of the Giants to explore the historic town site of Dyerville, a once thriving town located at the confluence of the Eel River and the South Fork Eel River in Humboldt County, California.

Dyerville was originally established in the late 1800s and once served as an important stop along the railroad and stage routes through the redwood forests. However, major floods in 1937 and 1955 destroyed much of the townsite, leaving behind only history and a few remnants of the past.

Along the way we explore:

• The historic Dyerville railroad trestle

• The confluence of the Eel River and South Fork Eel River

• The former townsite of Dyerville

• Nearby Founders Grove and the famous redwood forests

• The story of how floods wiped out the town

This area sits near the heart of Rockefeller Forest, home to some of the tallest redwood trees in the world.
