Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in Redway north of the West Coast Road area in the 2900 block of Redwood Drive this evening after receiving reports of visible flames and smoke rising from the hillside.
The first reports described flame lengths of more than 15 feet, though radio traffic later indicated the fire was quickly knocked down. An incident commander reportedly described the blaze as a “10 by 10 debris fire.”
One witness reported seeing a person leaving the area around the time the fire was discovered.
A photo from the scene showed smoke drifting through the trees above nearby structures as fire personnel worked in the area. The fire is now knocked down and firefighters are mopping up the scene.
