Beginnings May Faire & Plant Sale Brings Community Together to Celebrate Spring

This is a press release from Beginnings, Redway CA:

On Saturday, May 2nd from 10am to 4pm, Beginnings in Briceland will host its annual May Faire & Plant Sale, a family-friendly celebration of spring, culture, and community in Southern Humboldt.

The event features a traditional May Pole dance at 1:00pm, live performances by Round Valley Feather Dancers, Yarduties, and Wolftree, along with children’s activities including face painting and carnival games. Attendees can also participate in a hands-on tree grafting workshop, browse locally grown plant starts—vegetables, herbs, and flowers—and shop from local artisans and farmers while enjoying food throughout the day.

Beginnings, a long-standing community center, provides educational and enrichment programming for children and families, and events like the May Faire helps to raise funds while also creating accessible spaces for connection, creativity, and community celebration.

The event is supported in part by funding from Ink People, the Humboldt Creative Alliance, and Humboldt County’s Measure J, highlighting the importance of public and nonprofit investment in traditionally underserved communities like SoHum.

The May Faire and Plant Sale is a free event open to the public with plant starts, food and beverages available for purchase. We hope that you will join us in celebrating the coming spring and support our students, artists, farmers, craftsfolk and community!
