Help Clean Up the Coast After July 4 — Volunteers Needed in Crescent City
Press release from the Redwood Parks Conservancy:
Redwood Parks Conservancy (RPC), in partnership with California State Parks, the National Park Service, Smith River Alliance, CalTrans, and the Del Norte Solid Waste Authority, invites community members to participate in the annual July 5 Beach Clean-Up event.
Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, at the parking lot next to Schmidt’s House of Jambalaya, located at 110 Anchor Way in Crescent City. Coffee and a brief safety talk will be provided before clean-up efforts begin.
The event will focus on three key coastal sites: South Beach, Crescent Beach, and Elk Creek. With an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 visitors descending on Del Norte County over the Independence Day holiday, post-celebration pollution poses a serious environmental threat. In 2025, clean-up volunteers collected more than 2,300 pounds of trash and firework debris.
This year’s clean-up will concentrate efforts along a two-mile stretch of Crescent City’s South Beach, aiming to protect marine life and the broader ocean ecosystem.
“Coming together on July 5 is a powerful way for our community to care for the coast we all share,” said Autumn Subers, Volunteer and Transportation Director at Redwood Parks Conservancy. “Each volunteer effort helps protect and preserve the beauty of Crescent City’s shoreline for future generations.”
Cleanup supplies, including trash bags, pickers, sharps containers, and gloves, will be provided. Snacks and refreshments will also be available. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants for safety.
