Discover Humboldt: Hiking Redwood Creek–Seals, Pelicans & Hidden History Near Orick

Blue blue coastal scene

After a stretch of windy, unsettled weather across Humboldt, the coast has been offering brief windows of calm between systems. In this latest Discover Humboldt video, Humboldt Axe host Dock takes advantage of one of those breaks, heading north to the Redwood Creek outlet near Orick to soak in some winter sun and fresh ocean air.

The outing captures a something SoCal folks only dream of–a corner of the coastline with almost no one else around. A seal pops up its head and offshore, are the rock formations known as the Sisters..

Dock touches on the area’s history and its significance as Yurok land. The beauty and the peace makes one of Humboldt’s less-traveled coastal spots a place where you want to head next weekend. The reward in getting there is the space to slow down, watch the water, and take in a beautiful stretch of shoreline at a saunter.

Very nice video on Redwood Creek (Orick). Dock gets better all the time. Sharp videography. Polarized filter? Really brought the “blue” out.

Actually lack of Skylight filter. 🙂

Or faulty/turned-off Auto White Balance.

While I really enjoyed the video, it focuses just on the mouth of Redwood Creek and the beach. Redwood National Park and the Tall Trees Grove and Lady Bird Johnson Grove are national treasures and deserve their own report.
