Nancy Holberg-Caster
May 26, 1954 – February 13, 2026

Born May 26, 1954, and peacefully passing on February 13, 2026, Nancy Holberg-Caster lived a life rooted in love, creativity, hard work, and deep devotion to family and community.

Born to Earnest Holberg and Eleanor Holberg, Nancy was the youngest sister of 3 older brothers; Loren, Lloyd, and Donald. From an early age, she carried a quiet strength and independent spirit. At just 12 years old, her dad gifted her a horse named Red. This prompted other girls in the neighborhood to also get horses. She loved horses and animals deeply, especially dogs. This is a passion that stayed with her always.

A woman of remarkable creativity, Nancy found joy in sewing, quilting, weaving, and many other fine arts and crafts. She had a gift for baking and gardening, talents lovingly passed down from her mom and dad. Her hands were rarely still. If she wasn’t tending a garden, she was creating something beautiful. She had a special way of making even simple things feel warm and meaningful.

Nancy loved people. She welcomed new neighbors and nurtured friendships with ease, always offering kindness and an open heart. She enjoyed camping trips to Big River and Usaul, creating treasured memories outdoors with those she loved. Nancy also had a love for all kinds of music.

In August 1980, she married Glenn Cutting, and together they welcomed 2 children, Karianne and Evan. In 1993, she married Den Caster, and later moved with her children to Willow Creek, California. Through every season of life, family remained her greatest pride and joy.

Nancy dedicated 26 years of work to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, retiring in 2019. She made many friends during her time working. In retirement, she moved to Chewelah, Washington with Den, where she continued to cultivate friendships. Up there, she loved gardening in the summer, shoveling the snow in the winter, chopping kindling firewood, and the beauty of the property they lived in together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Holberg and Eleanor Holberg; her sisters-in-law Nancy Price Holberg, and Lu Dahl; and brother-in-law Neil Faulk.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Den Caster; her children, Karianne Darlington, (Benjamin Darlington), Evan Cutting; her grandchildren, Silas Darlington, Sterling Darlington, and Brentton Graham; her brothers Loren Dahl, Lloyd Dahl, and Donald Holberg; her brother-in-law Skip Caster and wife Sandy Caster; her sister-in-law Diane Faulk. She left behind her dog/daughter Maddie-Boo. Nancy also loved many extended family members, dear neighbors, and many lifelong friends to whom she was able to reach out to in her last weeks of life.

Nancy’s faith in Jesus was the foundation of her life. She looked to Christ as her firm foundation and never lost that faith. She prayed daily for those that she loved. Because of this we know we will see her again in Heaven.

Nancy will be remembered for her gentle strength, her creativity, her nurturing presence she brought to every room, and her acceptance of everyone. Her legacy continues through her children and her countless acts of love she gave so freely.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Special thanks to Rita Hand, a friend of over 50 years, for the time she spent with my mom in the beginning months of her treatment. Also a huge thanks to people who reached out, prayed, and sent kind words. This is what got us through the hardest times. Thank you so much.

A small service will be held in Chewelah, Washington in March, and another celebration of life will be held in Fort Bragg, California in July.
