Humboldt County emergency officials are warning residents to stay away from King Salmon as extreme flooding continues during record-breaking King Tides.

In a joint post, Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said, “We are aware of extreme flooding in the King Salmon area. Avoid the area if possible.” Officials added that residents whose homes have been damaged and who need temporary shelter should contact the American Red Cross at 800-733-2777.

The warning comes as King Tides pushed Humboldt Bay to unprecedented levels. According to Matthew Kidwell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Eureka, the North Spit tide gauge recorded a new all-time high of 10.01 feet, the highest tide ever measured since the gauge was installed in the late 1970s. Kidwell said offshore winds have been building storm surge, contributing to the extreme water levels.

Flooding has been reported across low-lying coastal areas, including King Salmon, Fields Landing, and parts of Eureka, where streets, parking lots, trails, and waterfront infrastructure were inundated. Officials say another high tide and strengthening winds on Saturday could push water levels even higher.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid flood-prone areas as the King Tide cycle continues.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. WALK YOUR DOGS ELSEWHERE UNTIL SUNDAY!!!!
WE DO NOT NEED DISASTER TOURISTS CLOGGING BUHNE AND BLOCKING THE WAY FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLES. Today was ridiculous with non-stop traffic just to see flooding. Good grief.
