A wildfire — now called the Kenyon Fire — broke out just before 2 p.m. today approximately southwest of downtown Redding. Cal Fire reports the blaze has grown to 5–10 acres and is spreading at a moderate rate.

Cal Fire has deployed a spotter plane to monitor the fire and two tankers are conducting aerial water drops. Ground crews are en route to establish containment lines.

Officials have issued evacuation notices for residents on the south side of Riviera Drive, between Lookout Court and Enchanted Way and law enforcement has been asked to go door to door making sure that residents are complying. Additional residences off Riviera Drive are also under evacuation request. If you live in these areas, please follow directives from emergency personnel immediately.

With the blaze still active, shifting winds are pushing smoke toward Redding neighborhoods. Visibility and air quality may worsen, according to local observers.
