[UPDATE 4:26 p.m.] Vehicle Rolls Multiple Times on 101 Near Miranda Exit, According to First Reports

Video provided by Armand Moore

Just before 3 p.m., a single vehicle traveling southbound on Hwy 101 near the Miranda exit rolled multiple times, according to the first reports from the scene. The initial information given was that there was one person inside the vehicle who was reporting they were okay, but an ambulance was requested at this point.

The vehicle is on its side and blocking one lane. According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, at least one southbound lane is closed. In addition the southbound onramp from Maple Hills Road is also closed.

Caltrans QuickMap shows traffic creeping through the area. Unfortunately, work is being done on the Avenue of the Giants south of Maple Hills Road so that is not a good option for a detour.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 4:12 p.m.: The roadway is now open.

UPDATE 4:26 p.m.: The CHP is reporting this is a minor injury accident.

That sounds like a very nasty crash. I am praying that all the people in the vehicle are ok. But at this point I am not sure of their condition(s). The Real Guest commented that Reach is inbound.

Reach inbound, but not necessarily associated with this call, but it seems likely.

I saw it go over, heading west from Redding, just before this accident hit RHBB.

Maybe just a coincidence, maybe not.

Dry weather, daylight, might want to revoke that license before they kill someone .

Not a very nice comment about the people involved. I am sure that you have no idea what happened to cause their vehicle to roll. And to say take their license away before they kill another person is just plain unfair.

I have no idea what caused rollover on dry clear day. What I do know is they rolled a vehicle in a solo accident on a straight road. There is zero excuse , if they swerved to miss a deer, squirrel, bird , snake etc. It was bad judgement, if on phone ,bad judgement, on drugs bad judgement, blown tire – hold steering wheel straight, come to a stop. No excuse for a rollover on a dry clear day on a straight stretch of road in a solo accident . By the way where is my phone ,crack me up. Take this license away before they kill someone.

Your second comment is still out of line. Why do you keep harping on the same ideas that are in your head? Maybe a blown tire, broken suspension part, etc., could have caused it. Have you ever had an accident while driving?

What if they blew a tie rod and lost control of steering? Should they still lose their license? There is so many different reasons this could’ve happened

Blew a tie rod? Tie rod breaks ,tire blows, come to a stop, no need to flip the vehicle.

They walked away alive, everything else is just noise. Today was a very good day for them.

Looks like Armand was using an electronic device while driving. That’s how accidents happen.

When you see an accident or flashing lights it’s best to not look and pay extra attention to the gawkers around you who aren’t paying attention.

What I noticed were multiple southbound vehicles crossing into the northbound fast lane to go around the accident, without any traffic control in place…

That’s sketchy.

??I think I would rather stop and wait for traffic control before I just opted to cross the double double yellow lines without it.?‍♂️

That being said, I consider Mr. Moore a helpful person. He’s a good guy in my book.

At least they were going slow. It’s amazing how well drivers can do when they pay attention.

Yay! Great job video guy. Let’s not stop to ask if anyone needs help, instead just pull out the ol phone and start recording. Cool.

While I agree with you, someone should not stop on the scene of an accident, if they can not help in any way , I have been on the scene of accidents (trained in ems) that we really needed an extra person..( man power) in the moments before fire and rescue got on scene. and have witnessed many people taking photos/videos when they could have been making themselves more useful.
Its extremely frustrating for the people who HAVE stopped and are really trying to help. I know everyone’s crazy for the footage but really, it’s not appropriate. Keep driving and keep your phone put away.

Oh yeah, stop and add more hazards on the road, seems there were enough people there!

In truth the one time stopping at such an incident, it was a slow moving disaster. A child was killed, after 20 minutes or so, the car set surrounding vegetation on fire. Passersby by ended up taking the family out of the vehicle, supplying them with blankets and a place to sit then removing the child’s body before it burned in the now flaming car then tried to delay the spread of the fire until the local volunteer fire department arrived 30 minutes later. The dozen people who stopped were not too much. It’s one of those hard judgement calls but no one left until control was taken by officials. Heros everyone of them in their own way.

When such happens everyone does what they think is best.

Kym. This is an opportunity to ask you if you can look into the problem of younger people not volunteering in local fire departments. Because it is apparently a problem here too. Can’t recruit even though financial support has never been higher.

I don’t consider a trained EMS person a hazard, especially if they arrive before the first responders.
