[UPDATE] Evacuation Order Issued for Burnt Ranch Area

Trinity County Sheriffs Office TCSO

According to Trinity County Sheriff Tim Saxon, “[A]fter consulting with USFS and looking at the anticipated weather patterns, we will be implementing an Evacuation Order for the community of Burnt Ranch this morning before noon.  USFS is fairly certain the fire will reach the area in the near future. This is similar to the Evacuation Order we made in Junction City in that there is not immediate danger, rather an opportunity for people to evacuate during daylight hours to avoid panic and dangerous conditions that can occur should the fire reach the area during the night.

UPDATE: Expanded information from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office:

Per the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and Trinity County Office of Emergency Services, the community of Burnt Ranch is now under an Evacuation Order. A road closure has been established at SR299 and Berg Road near the Gray Falls campground.
Area residents and visitors in the above-listed areas should leave the area due to increased fire activity. While leaving the area use caution as emergency vehicles assisting with evacuations, structure protection, and fire suppression efforts will be on the roadways.

Informational press release from the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office:

EVACUATION ORDER: Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.
EVACUATION WARNING: Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
SHELTER IN PLACE: Go indoors. Shut and lock doors and windows. Prepare to self-sustain until further notice and/or contacted by emergency personnel for additional direction.
EVACUATION ORDER(S) LIFTED: The formal announcement of lifting evacuations in an area currently under evacuation.
HARD CLOSURE: Closed to all traffic except Fire and Law Enforcement.
SOFT CLOSURE: Closed to all traffic except Fire, Law Enforcement, and critical Incident resources (i.e. Utility, Caltrans, City/County roads etc. or those needed to repair or restore infrastructure).
RESIDENT ONLY CLOSURE: Soft closure with the additional allowance of residents and local government agencies assisting with response and recovery.

Heard from firefighters yesterday that a dozer line is being put in place from Big Lake Road down the ridge to the Burnt Ranch dump transfer site at SR299. This is very good measure to take for protecting BR.

Dry chemical air drops were conducted all yesterday along the western front of the fire near Cedar Flat to slow the fire down, which seemed to have worked.

If a wildfire is what is threatening your safety, then yes it is. Good luck arguing with a wildfire about philosophy.

I like to disagree with you Martin, for some reason, but here I agree.

There is a reason it is called “Burnt Ranch”, lets not be naive or emotional, building a permanent house in an area that traditionally burns every 25 years is cery similar to building a house in a Tsunami Zone that is inundated by water every 25 years. This is absolutely no surprise. The size of these fires are not surprising after 100 years of logging and fire suppression the brush fuels are primed and ready to burn. All this area needs is a spark and some wind. Time to rethink wood houses in areas that burn. Think brick and mortar with steel roofs and try 1/2 mile of defensible space …. with infernos like these…. 500 feet does very little to protect your home. Be safe. Take good care of one another. Look out for that poisonous smoke. Stay dialed and loving.

If you are a historian you know why it’s called burnt ranch. It doesn’t have anything to do with the kind of fires we are having nowadays.

Willow Creeker,
With the kind of fires that area has been having for the last 20 years he has a very valid point.

Doesn’t matter what the place is called, it’s an obvious hazard area.
Has been for at least a couple of decades. At least in the Cedar fire footprint and it’s surrounding areas.

I was shocked seeing the graphic on the first monument fire thread that showed the mosaic of fire perimeters from 2020 until now, maybe it was still the Panther Fire then, that impressed upon me the recurring danger in the area and how extensive it is.
Building, buying, or living in that area would be risky at best, and could reasonably be considered
a bad gamble, to be sure.

I don’t care if the place is named
Nomex, or Kermex, that doesn’t mean it won’t burn.

Don’t be complacent, skedaddle if necessary. All that smoke can’t be good for you.

That might not be what the area is named for, but the shoe fits. Pretty darn close enough anyway.

I agree with you about building differently and your point about logged forests. However fire suppression is not the issue as they have been taking a it’s natural let it burn attitude like on the megram Fire. What a disaster that was. And this one is burning in previous fire scars.
The Hoopa fire department has been doing a great job putting out fires this summer.
People have lived here since “time immemorial “

Yes I was about to comment on structure composition, but Mendo Historian beat me to it. I too am a Willow Creeker of 22 years. Underground is good, for cool pantry space, generator of course, steel roof with a lip of glass to the southwest for light and summer warmth. 500′ of defense space as well. Then there is a chance. Lots of self sufficient types around here. Good luck to all the hardy folks, and those with trucks for the ill prepared or susceptible. Thank you Kym for a vital connection in the hills.

Yeah that’s kinda insulting blaming the victims but I think the recommendation at the end was good. Take it up with cal fires stupid forest practices rules. They are so retarded and outdated. My tree? My right to harvest. Also the forest service is more interested In harassing stoners historically than long range planning.

With no rain for at least 3 months and Fs shitting the bed with no plan of attack from the beginning it doesn’t look good for Trinty village salyer willow creek. Forest fucking circus they run around in there green trucks staring at fires with no intentions to put fires out what a fucking shit show hope everyone’s home owners insurance policy is up to date wondering if the fs can be sued for property loss because of the lack of land management?

Marlboro can grow more dope without all of those trees. Plus more fire = more paycheck

Time for us to do our own fire lines around New River and denny road

well I called and they aren’t doing a contingency line on the west side and its going to be 110 degrees all week.

My math suggests they intend to “do their best” which I know the guys on the crew are doing. It’s just that without containment line on the west side kiss Salyer and willow goodbye too.
