The US Forest Service requested Caltrans close Hwy 299 at Big Bar about 4:30 p.m. because the Monument Fire is threatening the area.

According to Caltrans District 2, “SR 299 is closed from Hayden Flat Campground (west of Del Loma) to Big Flat Ranger Station (east of Big Bar) due to the #MonumentFire. No ETO. Choose alternate routes.”

UPDATE 7:35 p.m.: According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, Hwy 299 has reopened. Hwy 299 Reopens, But ‘Subject to Closure at Any Time’

Thanks for the article, Kim. Another map show this fire has spotted west to Canadian Creek headwaters, and north of Hwy 299 at Del Loma. The wind is breezy and the smoke column is pretty high.
Another fire started Friday night just up Underwood Mountain Road, about 1/3 mile from Hwy 299. It was contained by about noon on Saturday

is Highway 5 to 299 headed to Junction city California is it shut down due to the fire

Road closed for the night and possible closures for 36 hours per cal trans on site.
Tomorrow morning I’m going to 36 to highway 3 then over to 299 right turn out to I-5 right head to red bluff
