Jason Todd Garrett
Jason Todd Garrett, born 01/30/1987 was taken from us suddenly on February 13th 2020. Jason loved all things found in nature and found peace outside amongst the astounding redwoods of southern Humboldt county.
He was selfless with his time and resources he would help anyone with anything with or without being asked to do so. Recently he spent a large portion of the last few years helping his grandparents renovate, clean and prepare their property to be sold. He took great pride in helping his family any way he could.
Jason had lots of loves in his life ranging from family, girlfriends, hobbies, jobs, pets but none truly were as loved as his mother who he cherished more than any other being or thing in the world although some came close none had the bond of mother and son to him. He was never shy to say he was a “madre’s” boy, Jason and his mother were blessed to have spent the last few years together helping their family with the property.
Jason had a strong bond with both of his brothers one of them always saying, “I could never in my life laugh so hard all night as I did growing up and sharing a room with Jason.” They both always had a best friend in him growing up.
Jason couldn’t wait to return to southern Humboldt although he loved his time with his family, his job there was done and he looked forward to the next adventure and to the next person he could help. In Garberville and the surrounding areas he and his beloved dog Leonard would be seen earning a living working in land management, brush clearing, or as he called it resource harvesting (cutting and selling firewood).
Jason was a fun-loving, gentle soul who was fulfilled by doing for others. It is such a loss to his family, friends, dog and community to have had him taken so suddenly at the young age of only 33. He was loved and loved so deeply by so many and will forever be missed.
He is survived by his loving mother, brothers, uncles, grandparents, cousins and of course Leonard his dog.
All of Jason’s friends and loved ones are invited to his celebration of life, to share story’s and celebrate his wonderful life. It will be held at the Benbow Inn Saturday the 29th at 1:00 (come early).

This is so sad…. Rest In Peace young man..?
Hart felt condolences
R.I.P Jason. Thanks for cheering me up on many occasions and all the help over the years. See you again someday. My deepest condolences to the family during these hard times.
Looks like a stand up kind of guy! Unlike so many others around these parts! R.I.P. Good man!!!
Wow. you see a picture of someone and rate them as solid and then infer most aren’t. Jason was a caring soul. So are many others in this area just like him. Deal with it.
The thing I liked most about Jason was that he didn’t back stab people or gossip. He thought that was BS. Rest in peace bro.
lame
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this young man. So senseless. So many families in Southern Humboldt who have missing or murdered children. The heartbreak for these families is palpable. I’m so very sorry for all your losses.
My heart breaks, knowing Jason is gone. He was a wonderful person. As stated above, he was a devoted friend to many and always willing to help a friend out. He was always kind to animals and humans, alike. He rarely, if ever, got involved in petty gossip. He could keep you captivated by some funny tale and wouldn’t hesitate to boogie down to a good tune…he was a great dancer! I was fortunate to have been working at the Benbow when he and Dayna arrived there and they were some of the best times of my life… I love you, Dayna. My heart goes out to all of Jason’s family and friends. Jason will be forever missed. ❤️
Condolences to the friends and family of this young guy.
So very sorry for those who knew and loved this young man. This makes me very sad.
i would like to start with a known case of mother not helping her daughter when her husband would beat her child when he got arrested for it the judge had charged her for not doing something to help her daughter and she was sentence to prison for that isnt it the same kind of thing well i have a few questions with all the people that were involved why did they not get charged as well because there were enough people to have stood against this sick individual instead they help this man kill and bury him and yet only the killert gets charged they don,t get in trouble anyone of them could of reported it as an i witness to this case they did not do anything the whole time it was happening and the police why did they not respond when the first person went to the police and when another person involved wen to the police about his jeep he never said a word until later i call bullshit everyone of them should be from what i understands there were at least ten people there including the killer this is a messed up case and a lot of people are walking skate free i feel they are all guilty for not doing anything about it to help my very good friend now i see them everyday now like it never happened i love and will forever miss you jason and i will fight for you this is bullshit and what about the person who lewered jason up there to help them fix a car and they are not going to just walk are they i call bull shit we don,t have anymore charles manson these people are cowards and something needs to be done about it ,im so sorry that those were supposed to be your friends jason i just know that i would have done whatever it took to stop this to my own death jason i truley hope that justice shall be done for you my friend these people should, not be allowed to just walk away from this nor should the police
Mathew Rucker. I 100% agree. All parties involved need to be arrested. Ryan never talked of this young man. But others involved yes. He has had issues with. [edit] i know for a fact. I think this was a set up so they could rob him which they have already done. [edit] Because i am not the property owner i was told by the investigator I couldnt file a police report. So i am putting it out there. I want my belongings back. Keep your greasy tweeker hands and bodys off of what does not belong to you. I am sorry this young man was killed. I could think of tons others who deserve it instead.
That’s because drug addicts won’t piss on each other if they were on fire. It’s really that simple. “Friendship” relies on “the bag” “,the rock” or the needle. Everything else is just a facade and a illusion of actually caring. I wouldn’t be surprised if assailants took his shoes before they attempted to dismember him and bury him. Ever witnessed a “shooting gallery”?. Vultures.
My sorrow for this young man’s life robbed with such heinous actions with others there, not being held accountable is deeply disturbing and unjust.
I as well was almost raped and killed by my partner and workers helping him. Justice has not been served to them yet. I have to see them on the regular. It is terrifying and psychologically destructive to my well being.
People like this are just as guilty as Tanner.
My deepest condolences to Jason’s family and and friends.
I didn’t know this Jason well but he definitely always had a big smile and a fun, welcoming energy. Condolences to the family.

Until we meet again homie
Correction on the Celebration of Life detail – it will be held in the State Park in front of Benbow Inn – not at the Inn.
What a tragedy… Jason was always smiling and always selfless. Some of my fondest memories at the Benbow Inn is when Jason was part of the kitchen crew. He always brightened our day, even when in the weeds, cracking jokes, and having fun. Eager to learn, excited to try new things and extremely helpful. An essential part of the team. Rest in peace brother…we’ll sling some food together again, in the big kitchen in the sky.
????
I can’t believe this.
We hadn’t talked for years but a ton of childhood memories flooded back to me while reading this and realizing who he was. The tramp, sock em boppers and general kid stuff….
We are sending all our condolences and love to Dayna, Trav and Marcus.
We are so so sorry for your loss and we know no words will ever heal the wound this has left on you guys and all of his friends and acquaintances…may he rest in peace
Man he use to stop by my home in the cove with his friends that worked at benbow . He was always so nice and respectful. Why do people have such little value on life . My god smh ….not sure what it was over , but god of it was money … money can be replaced , PEOPLE CAN NOT BE REPLACED !!!!!
i met a guy in portland named jason Garrett is this the same guy?
Yes Jason lived in Portland and went to school there. I’m his cousin who lives in Portland
My heart aches for you Dayna. Im so very sorry for your loss.
So first off,
My condolences to the family & friends of this sweet-hearted young man, That’s absolutely been letdown by this community, in more ways than one.
First off, here is “one” of those “ways” that others involved themselves inorder for some type of sick personal gain?
Didn’t this same newspaper, run a follow up report/Update about several people in the community, that were reasonably close to Jay as acquaintances / friends / what not…. and joke or front I have a few [edit], running his mouth, on a recorded call, saying something along the lines of, “Give me a gun and I’ll take care of it.”
I agree 100%, that all parties involved should have some type of consequences for their actions, involuntary or not, in the eventual dismemberment and killing of this young man by a “locally” known serial killer?!?!
I’ve been told, it’s been going on for generations before Tanner…. Could be hearsay, could be the truth…
It seems to me that there is a much larger group of people that just oddly watched and stood by the sidelines and ran their mouth while this poor dude was robbed of the most precious thing you can have:
Our Life, and our right to live it.
RIP an awesome human.
There was a woman behind all of this nonsense
