By 8:00 p.m., the CHP site confirmed that State Route 299 was shut down in both directions as fire crews responded to the scene.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.: The CHP says that both lanes still shut down but officials are allowing vehicles to pass on the shoulder on the eastbound side.

I’m praying no animals were in the trailer. Probably caused by overheated brakes, is my guess. TG humans are ok.

I was driving a U-Haul truck directly behind the truck/trailer on 299. It started producing smoke while in old town Weaverville, just past Eagle Rock it started smoking really bad and was dropping smoking pieces on the roadway, after they pulled over we saw the bottom of the truck was on fire.

Hoping no livestock in the trailer. Perhaps a
fuel leak on to exhaust system?
