Facebook Outage Leaves Users Logged Out, Locked Out and Frustrated This Morning

facebook unlikeUsers across the United States and around the world including here in the North Coast of California reported problems accessing Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and other Meta-owned services Friday morning, June 12, with complaints surging shortly after 6:30 a.m. Pacific Time.

Reports ranged from users being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts to feeds failing to load, pages displaying error messages, and Messenger becoming inaccessible. Some users reported receiving “query error” messages while others found themselves unable to post, refresh content, or access anything beyond their basic profile pages.Downdetector screenshot

The outage-tracking service Downdetector showed reports climbing sharply Friday morning after a relatively quiet overnight period. User comments posted to the service reflected the widespread nature of the disruption.

One Los Angeles user wrote that Instagram allowed only a few words to be typed into a direct message before disconnecting, while Messenger had completely logged them out. Another reported that Facebook would load but would not display content beyond a basic profile page. A third user in western New York simply reported, “Back up,” suggesting service may have been returning in some areas while problems continued elsewhere.

Meta acknowledged the outage Friday morning.

“We’re aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it,” Meta communications executive Andy Stone said in a statement posted on X.

Reuters reported that more than 62,000 Facebook outage reports and more than 8,000 Instagram outage reports had been logged by approximately 10:11 a.m. Eastern Time, though the actual number of affected users will likely be much higher because outage trackers rely on voluntary user submissions.

The outage appeared to affect multiple Meta platforms simultaneously. News reports and user accounts indicated problems with Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads and some Meta business tools.

As of publication, Meta had not released an explanation for the cause of the outage.

For businesses and news organizations that rely heavily on Facebook for audience engagement, the outage may have temporarily disrupted posting, commenting, messaging and traffic referrals during the morning hours.

Expect more of this as companies move to using AI to write their code. Pretty crazy that all of their services went down, but that shows you how much Meta is mining your data.

Why do you assume 1) that this was a code failure and 2) that said code was written by AI? How many years coding experience do you have? (I have 57)

Facebook has 3.07 billion monthly active users globally. Across the entire Meta Platforms family—which includes Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger—3.48 billion people log in every single day

Sadly, a lot of small businesses that don’t have the time/$/skillset to build their own website still use it as their primary online presence.

Best way to avoid this….dont use fascist spy tool forums that are killing the earth with AI and stealing all your info while supplying pedos pictures thru posts of everyones kids.
If you put a picture, poem or art up, its theirs.

To businesses with only FB accounts, get a web page, please! Many bizs here have 5 or 6 old pages still online, why would I waste energy trying to see which one is current when I could shop elsewhere?

Proud to say never had FB account. Am old enuf to remember when it started as a way to see how people will shop online and the cia openly said they would be using it as a spy tool. I have a zine from that time called “Who needs the NSA when we have face
book”

Highly recc Mastodon. For those not into the ideals of todays administration, its an AI free forum thats protected. Lots of science, art, flowers, cats, etc. No maga. Dont need account to look at or link. I hear the format is very different than most social media but worth the time figuring it out.
Theres a lovely local elder who is often on the main feed representing our area by being her awesome self! Thx to NorCalGma!
Check it out here.
