[UPDATE Saturday morning] One Person With Major Injuries After Pickup Crashes Into Home on Humboldt Hill

Breaking news graphicTwo people are injured after a pickup crashed into a home near the 6000 block of Humboldt Hill Road about 10:22 p.m., according to the Incident Commander speaking over the scanner. One of those hurt has major injuries, he said. And he requested a second ambulance.

Humboldt Hill Road is currently blocked as emergency personnel work at the scene.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 10:41 p.m.: One ambulance is on its way to the hospital with a patient.

UPDATE 11:09 p.m.: Redwood News is reporting that the driver of the truck was going too quickly and crashed into the home. The driver, Redwood News reports, was detained by law enforcement.

UPDATE 11:20 p.m.: A reader sent us this photo of the truck which crashed through into the bedroom of the two people that were injured.

UPDATE 11:41 p.m.: A neighbor told us, “We arrived before first responders.” She said that before it hit the house, the truck plowed through a huge sign with “no sign of braking at all.” [Note: She said after looking again that there are skid marks.]

The neighbor said that a husband and wife in their bedroom were injured in the crash. “I grabbed the woman’s robe off of the wall in that demolished room because she was asking for it,” the neighbor told us. “The robe was the only thing I could access that wasn’t ruined.”

The first responders arrived and began doing CPR on the husband. “The first responders were working really hard to keep his heart beating,” the neighbor explained. “It was heartbreaking to see his wife with blood all over her face and wanting to know how her husband was and watch them trying to keep him alive just feet away and she couldn’t see him.”

UPDATE 11:54 p.m.: The sign for the Redwood Christian Center Church which is nearby was hit by the truck before it crashed into the home.

What an terrible thing to read about….

Just a suggestion to homeowners along well traveled roads –

I had a place known for a car crashing into the yard every few years, the first thing I did after closing on the property was install two rows of rock into the landscape. You may never need it, but after I sold that place the new owners needed it.

Prayers for everyone involved.

With the height of some of these pickups nowadays, you’d need a full set of Czech hedgehogs to stop this crash. Of course, if drivers would slow the heck down and remember how easy it is to kill someone with a vehicle, that would help.

When you’re drunk, high, on the phone, whatever, you’re not thinking about how easy it is to kill people, or any other part of driving for that matter…

You layer the rocks in such a way that the rear axle will catch after the front hits and jars forward.

The place I sold caught the truck on the rear, stopping it.

I’m just putting this out there for people to think about.

I know that the people who bought my old place were happy I did that work.

One at Buhne and Harrison, installed when that intersection had just one stop sign on Buhne.

…..another one on a corner of Myrtle Ave, the house has been hit at least a couple of times that I know of.

……and like yourself, this house may still have a massive boulder hidden behind the greenery, a product of the “Thrill Hill” days, before Eureka redesigned the roadway, making it “less” attractive for speeding thrill seekers looking to go airborne over the one end of the steep dip in the roadway.

Right next door to that one on Myrtle there is still a plywood patched hole in the side of the building from a drunk driver. Now the owner parks two giant box trucks in front as protection at all times.

One of the parked trucks did it’s job a couple of years ago, when a speeding motorist failed to negotiate the turn and slammed into the back of one of the parked trucks

Nomadic,
how high, how thick?

I live on a busy road, cars crash onto the lawn every few years due to reckless driving.

Thanks.

Condolences to the victims.

The height will depend on the slope of the yard.

Eight feet spacing between the rows, planted with shrubbery or small trees.

Use larger rocks closest to the home and fill the row spacing with pea gravel, sand, and wood chips that covers rebar pointed towards the road.

Good gawd. Asleep in your own bed and something horrific like this happens. Thoughts and prayers to the wife and family over the loss of their loved one. There is just no excuse for something like this to happen. I hope the driver spends a healthy period of his life in prison for his stupidity.

Had a car hit a tree on the lawn so hard it took out the tree, had to hall it away.

The car almost hit the person mowing the lawn, 30 feet in.

Then put up a fence in concrete and steel, another vehicle smashed the road sign so hard it flung the whole thing post and all into the air and into the fence, it chipped the fence, but it held.

The driver was stoned.

Was taken into custody.

Be best for the community if they stay in custody.

Like to see a description of the truck.

Said this before, will say it again,

somebody may want to consider some check points around a big holiday weekend like the one comming up,

they will probably have some,

but didn’t anticipate needing something like that leading up to the holiday weekend.

It was his birthday and some of my brothers friends said he was fighting w his gf over text. He was hammered and this isn’t the first time he’s been arrest for 1: drunk driving and 2: hitting a building. He’s also already out on bail the next damn day. It’s disgusting in every way possible.
