Video: Massive Law Enforcement Convoy Rolls into Covelo Area Wednesday Morning
A massive multi-agency law enforcement convoy descended on the Covelo area Wednesday morning, drawing attention from residents and travelers along Highway 162 who reported a seemingly endless line of vehicles heading into the valley.
One witness driving on Highway 162 described seeing more than 40 law enforcement vehicles, including a Bearcat armored vehicle, a skid steer, and multiple unmarked units. Video captured by the witness showed the convoy stretching down the highway.
California Highway Patrol Officer Colton Rickard of CHP Northern Division confirmed a multi-agency operation took place but said details would be released at a later date.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Quincy Cromer confirmed his agency’s involvement in a statement Wednesday. “Personnel from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the activities [Wednesday] morning in the Northern area of our County but are not the primary investigating agency,” Cromer said, deferring further questions to CHP.
Later Wednesday, two Covelo residents were booked into Mendocino County Jail on weapons charges. It is unconfirmed at this time whether the arrests are connected to the multi-agency operation.
Robert Cole Whipple, 41, of Covelo was booked at 1:35 p.m. by Ukiah CHP on the following charges:
- Penal Code 12086 / 29180 — Possess/buy/etc. firearm without identification mark (misdemeanor, attempted)
- Penal Code 30510/30515 — Possession of any assault weapon (felony, attempted)
- Penal Code 27500 — Sell/give/etc. firearm to prohibited person (felony, attempted)
Robert Cole Whipple Junior, 19, of Covelo was booked at 12:49 p.m. by Ukiah CHP on the following charges:
- Penal Code 166/166(c)(1) — Violation of court order with prior injunction (felony, committed)
- Penal Code 30510/30515 — Possession of any assault weapon (felony, committed)
- Penal Code 30305 — Possession of ammunition by prohibited person (felony, committed)
- Penal Code 29800 — Felon/addict in possession of firearm (felony, committed)
Wednesday’s operation is not the first time CHP’s Investigative Services Unit has been active in Covelo in recent months. In February, the ISU served a search warrant in the area in connection with a freeway shooting on U.S. Highway 101 in Ukiah on February 7, seizing a vehicle believed to have been used in that incident. It is unknown whether the two operations are related.
This is a developing story. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Do these guys ever consider car pooling?
That would reduce the “Shock and Awe” effect on the natives. And hey- they aren’t paying for their own gas anyways…WE are!! Anyways they NEED all those officers and vehicles. Just watch- they’ll get like ONE grow or ONE criminal and leave all the others next door standing and watching as they pull out and drive home for dinner….Safety in numbers I guess?
But then when they exited it would (fittingly) look like a clown car.
Nothing compared to the money wasted on the ballroom. Donny is a joke.
zero tax money is/will be spent on the ballroom. Check for yourself if you don’t believe me.
I don’t know bro. Gas prices are high and diesel is crazy. And yes Donnie is a joke.
Donny J. (Not Jesus) is a very bad joke on America and freedom world-wide. Almost incalculable damage to The United States that will take decades to repair if we even can. Lotta bubbles got popped by The Modern Republican Party.
Oh boy! So even Covelo now is about Trump? Yeah he sucks but it is TDS to insert him into everything and always. Can we just keep a little focus here, people?!
Covelo is a Dangerous Place!
Thank you to all the law enforcement officers involved in this major operation in Covelo. It’s about time this valley saw a strong, coordinated response to the lawlessness that’s been plaguing the area for far too long. These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to reclaim communities from those who have turned them into no-go zones.
Covelo has unfortunately become a cartel holdout in the heart of the Emerald Triangle, complete with hidden armories of illegal weapons that fuel the chaos. Violent drug addicts and criminals rule the streets, preying on anyone who gets in their way, while good, honest families — many of them long-time residents just trying to live peaceful lives — live in constant fear. The missing persons cases tied to this environment are heartbreaking and demand justice.
We stand with our law enforcement heroes who are finally bringing order back to Round Valley. Keep pushing forward — the decent people of Covelo deserve safety, and the cartels and their enablers need to be rooted out completely. God bless our officers for stepping up when it matters most.
This is a no joke example. Like they would arrest half the town. And/or establish an occupying force. Be aware. Be very aware. Ask Poland.
super insulting to say half of RV would be arrested as actively committing crimes
if you didn’t drink the bong water you would knothis isnt the forst time, second time or even third time this has happened in rv
im sure this time “they” will learn thier lesson
entirely missing the point. 🙂 Ask Poland.
Invasion of Poland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_of_Poland
first person with a gun i ever saw was a us army dude in a helicopter over my house looking for demon reefer
pretty sure i get it
The super insulting part — I said they come into town like they’re ready to do that, not that half the town would nor should be arrested as actively committing crimes. get it now? 🙂
Ask Poland? Ask Honeydew. In my imagined movie script, CAMP would take off with half the town and there would be a citizen’s injury crisis, but the EMT’s and Fire Department Volunteers all got arrested and taken away!
Being here then I agree!
So you’re saying that all of the EMTs and volunteer firefighters are criminals?!
same thing all over again
round valley is the perfect place to irradicate all the demon reefer in rv except for permit farms and 6 plant backyarders
but they wont
they get tired
the OT runs out
and well
just cant get it all
they will try and go after
“the worst of the worst”
they will fail
get a few maggots wrapped up
but the truth is “they” will be back at it right away
the real question is what to do with the illegals who have come to rv to commit crimes and interbred with natives who legitimize thier presence and
are have permanently set up shop
on almost every reservation in the USA
anyone who lives in rv and similar places will tell you this is true
only liars and keyboard cowboys who never leave the basement
say otherwise- except Mr Clark
Nice try, Mr. Clark.
Upvote didn’t work. Sigh.
Round Valley is such a beautiful valley, especially this time of year. Pierces my soul to see all this. That overlook coming in from the south….. may peace be found
Overkill of dcc 32 million funding for busts
They needed all of that for a father and son , FFS !
I understand a felon being in possession of a firearm but an “addict being in possession of a firearm?” Really? All you alcoholics better watch out! And why not? Alcohol is definitely one of the worst drugs there is. Barring fentanyl and its offshoots alcohol is as bad or worse than all the other hard drugs out there.
Oh look an alcohol addicted gun owner down voted my comment!
