Gopher: This Boy Is Ready to Dig His Way Into Your Heart

Black and white Cattle dogIf you’ve been looking for a loyal sidekick who’s equal parts goofy and devoted, Gopher may be ready to burrow straight into your life.

This black-and-white Border Collie mix has been waiting at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter since April 20, and staff describe him as a smart young dog who will thrive with patience, consistency, and training. At about 1 year and 4 months old, Gopher still has plenty of puppy energy packed into his sturdy 60-pound frame.

While he’s listed as a Border Collie mix, shelter staff say he’s built a little differently than the classic lean herding dog — with thick bones, a big head, and an even bigger personality.

Gopher is especially interested in other dogs and could make a great playmate for another dog with similar energy. But his true love? A giant Jolly Ball. Toss one his way and you may become his favorite person instantly.

With his alert ears, bright eyes, and eager smile, Gopher looks ready for whatever comes next — whether that’s hikes, games of fetch, or simply hanging out with someone willing to give him the structure and affection he needs.

If you’re interested in meeting Gopher, visit the Humboldt County Animal Shelter adoption page and fill out an application to be pre-approved for an appointment.
