Fatal Crash Reported on Highway 1 Near Gualala
A fatal traffic collision was reported around 1 p.m. Monday, February 16, on State Route 1 north of Gualala across from Sail Rock, according to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page.
Initial reports indicated a vehicle left the roadway and collided with trees along the west side of the highway. Emergency responders were dispatched after a 911 crash notification from an Apple device reported someone trapped inside the vehicle.
Scanner and incident log information indicated at least one person was trapped in the vehicle, which was described as off the roadway with the roof crushed inward. Fire personnel from CAL FIRE and other emergency responders were requested to assist with extrication.
The CHP incident was later updated to a fatality, according to dispatch records. Tow services were requested to the scene, and responders continued working in the area through the afternoon.
Additional details about the person involved and the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
