Humboldt County Fire Safe Council Seeks Public Input on Community Wildfire Protection Plan Update
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Fire Safe Council:
The Humboldt County Fire Safe Council is in the process of updating the Humboldt County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) and is seeking public input.
The purpose of the CWPP is to inspire and guide actions that help mitigate the potential for wildfire loss in all vulnerable communities within the boundaries of Humboldt County.
The current plan was certified in 2019 by the Board of Supervisors, CAL FIRE and the Humboldt County Fire Chiefs’ Association. It is now in the process of being updated to better reflect current wildfire hazards and local needs.
The Humboldt County Fire Safe Council would like to hear from anyone who lives, works or has invested in Humboldt County to ensure the plan meets the community’s needs. Input provided will inform strategies for reducing wildfire risk in your community, fire safety programs and educational materials and fuel management priorities on public and private lands.
How to Participate
The Humboldt County Fire Safe Council will hold a virtual workshop on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 p.m. to provide information on the CWPP update process and review preliminary wildfire and community risk assessments. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in interactive polling activities and participate in a group discussion on wildfire-related topics like evacuation and emergency response, wildfire planning, home hardening and defensible space. All interested community members are encouraged to register to attend.
Those unable to attend the workshop are encouraged to fill out the Humboldt County Community Wildfire Protection Plan Survey to share their input. The short survey is anonymous and will take under 15 minutes to complete.
Information on how to attend the virtual workshop and the CWPP Survey can be found on the Humboldt County CWPP Update web page. If you encounter issues with the meeting registration link not opening, please open the link in a private browser. If you have questions about attending the workshop or are unable to register, please email [email protected].

Funding for this project was partially provided by a grant from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection as part of the California Climate Investments Program, through the California Fire Safe Council and by CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program.
