Huffman Votes No on Republicans’ ‘Blank Check’ for ICE
This is a press release from Huffman Press:
[Last week], Rep. Jared Huffman voted against House Republicans’ latest reconciliation package, which would provide tens of billions of dollars in new funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) while failing to lower costs for American families.
“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I will not vote to give ICE a blank check to continue their reign of terror. Families are struggling to afford basic necessities like groceries, gas, and housing. Trump and the GOP took affordable healthcare away from millions of Americans to pay for their billionaire tax breaks. Instead of working to fix the problems they created, Republicans just passed a $70 billion for ICE and Border Patrol. And they flat out rejected Democratic amendments to stop Trump from giving $1.8 billion in taxpayer dollars to right-wing allies and violent insurrectionists. It’s all breathtakingly disconnected from what Americans are asking Congress to do,” said Rep. Huffman. “Taxpayer dollars should be used to make life better and more affordable for Americans, not the political grievances, vanity projects, and cruel ideological crusades Trump and his cronies are focused on.”
Reconciliation 2.0 Provides Slush Funds for Trump’s Priorities
- Increases the deficit by $70 billion to provide $38.5 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), $26.0 billion to Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and $5.0 billion to the Department of Homeland Security.
- Rejects common-sense reforms, accountability, and oversight for these agencies that have murdered American citizens, terrorized communities, and lied about it.
- Fails to block Trump’s weaponization slush fund for his January 6 insurrectionists.
- Allows Trump to keep his negotiated agreement with the Department of Justice to exclude himself from an audit and wipe out his $100 million in taxes and penalties owed.

Wow! What a surprise! A rabidly partisan politician won’t vote to support opposing rabidly partisan politicians.
Thank you, Jared Huffman!!
Ummm…except a bunch of REPs did stand up against that $1.8 Billion funding and that’s why it got shot down. But hey- never let facts get in the way of a good propaganda hit! And yeah- ICE shouldn’t get a blank check. But I do hate liars and that’s what Huffman is- a liar…
Huffman specifically states that the Reconciliation 2.0 package “Fails to block Trump’s weaponization slush fund for his January 6 insurrectionists.”
That is entirely true.
