On Saturday, December 27, 2025, at approximately 1:30 PM, Shasta County Sheriff’s deputies, along with fire and medical crews, responded to a report of a boating collision involving two vessels on Lake Shasta. The collision occurred in the area of the Packers Bay Inlet. There were 10 adult passengers between both vessels involved. At the time of the collision, no parties were wearing Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), however they did have all safety equipment on board.

Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Boating Safety Unit responded to the scene and were assisted by patrol deputies from both the City of Shasta Lake and South County stations.

As a result of the collision, 3 victims were transported to a local hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to major, however none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

The investigation into the cause of this collision is ongoing.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public of the importance of practicing boating safety while on the water. All parties on a vessel should wear a properly fitted and approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and maintain a proper lookout at all times.

Wow, that water has to be cold! Glad they are all alive.

By not wearing their personal flotation devices (life jackets), they are lucky to be alive. With minor to major injuries hopefully they will heal quickly. No mention of drugs or alcohol so I assume it just appears to be an accident. When you are on the water, please be courteous and watch out for other boaters.

Constantly a problem on that lake where bassholes are going way too fast for areas and visibility on the lake. They will be doing 50 plus around tight narrow corners or through high traffic areas. Honestly surprised this doesn’t happen a lot more based on personal observation while spending months a year on that lake.

Just Saying, I have only used that lake several times over the years, so I greatly appreciate your input on how the “bassholes” are apparently using it for their speedboat racecourse. I guess they think their boat will stop on a dime. Please keep yourself safe and away from these nuts. Are there any law enforcement boats on the lake.
