Neil Campbell was born on January 25, 1947, in Puyallup, Washington, to Neil K. and Eleanor I. Campbell. He was the oldest of nine children — six carrying the Campbell name and three the Sullivan name.

In 1949, the Campbell family moved from Washington to Humboldt County, settling in McKinleyville. Neil attended McKinleyville schools and graduated from McKinleyville High School in 1964.

Neil was blessed with his first child, Kristin Grace Campbell, in 1967, and his second, Neil Scott Campbell, in 1969. In 1976, he met the love of his life, Sherry Marie, and together they made their home in Gold Hill, Southern Oregon.

Neil’s greatest joys in life were his family and his many adventures. He especially loved skydiving, hunting, fishing, scuba and free diving, golfing, and playing men’s softball. In 1998, he welcomed his first grandson, Dylan Scott, followed 18 months later by his second grandson, Spencer Neil — both of whom brought him endless pride and happiness.

Neil began his career working alongside his father, building “bin walls” along roads throughout Humboldt County. He later worked as a carpenter and eventually became a journeyman millwright. Neil was proud so say that he worked on power plants from Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, and California. He carried that same pride throughout his career, culminating in his role as a supervisor at General Electric.

Neil is proceeded in death by his parents Neil K. “Pudge” Campbell and Eleanor I. “Gram” Campbell Sullivan, step father – Elmer Sullivan, sister – Barb Campbell, brother in law- Steve Loveland, brother – Kyle Sullivan, brother – Merle “Butch” Campbell, brother in law- Dave Gleason, sister and brother in law – Deb and John Posey, niece – Connie Rowland, and nephew – John Posey II.Neil is survived by his wife – Sherry Roy Campbell, daughter – Kristin Campbell, son – Neil Scott (Rene) Campbell, grandsons – Dylan (Tawny) Campbell and Spencer Campbell, sisters – Linda (Bill) Alden, Patte Gleason, Kelly Loveland, Carrie (Fred) Phillips, sister in law – June Sullivan and numerous other family members.

Neil will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Humboldt Area Foundation – Eleanor “Gram” Sullivan Scholarship.
