Worker Injured in Highway 101 Incident Near Orick

Emergency lights featureEmergency crews responded early this afternoon to what was first described as a vehicle vs. pedestrian incident on Highway 101 near mile marker 127, north of Orick. Subsequent information clarified the incident involved a worker who was pinned by a trailer.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page, the call came in around 12:54 p.m. Initial details suggested the incident may have involved the worker’s own vehicle, but updated information clarified that the individual was loading a transfer trailer when a brake failure caused the trailer tongue to pin the worker against a truck.

Scanner traffic indicated City Ambulance, Orick Fire, and Cal Fire were dispatched to the scene. CHP log notes state the patient suffered a leg injury and was possibly already en route to the hospital by 1:18 p.m. By about 1:28 p.m., incoming medical was cancelled, suggesting the injured party had already been transported.

At this time, the condition of the injured worker has not been released.

Boy that was one angry trailer. I sure hope the injured worker will heal completely from his injury and be back on the job soon. He has my permission to take a hammer to the darn trailer!
