Royal Crest Manufactured Home Owners ‘Will Make Their Case to Fortuna City Council to Adopt Standard Rent Stabilization Ordinance’ July 21

This is a press release from Royal Crest Manufactured Home Owners:

Event Date: July 21st, 2025

Event Time: 6:00 p.m.

Where: Fortuna City Council Chambers, 621 11th Street, Fortuna, CA

WHAT

A coalition of home owners from Royal Crest Mobile Home Park and Fortuna Mobile Home and RV Park will make their case to the Fortuna city council to adopt a standard Rent Stabilization Ordinance as soon as possible in order to stop the further erosion of affordability of the lots their homes sit on.

WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT

The City of Fortuna is already behind in their own affordability housing projections required by the state and they have been failing, not only to recognize homes in mobile home parks as part of their affordable housing inventory (55%), they have also been allowing park owners– by and large multi-million dollar, out of area corporations– to raise lot rents unsustainably high with no limits to the extent that many– especially those living on fixed incomes like seniors and the disabled, have become, or are at risk of, homelessness.

The home owners are requesting to be placed on the City Council agenda, and will represent their group needs through the Public Comment process.

More information available upon request.

Humboldt County cannot afford to lose any more affordable housing. City of Fortuna must take action now!

More appropriate:

Gas Prices. California has the highest gas prices in the country. (Yee hah !)
Electricity Prices. California, electricity prices are among the highest in the USA.
Insurance Prices. Homeowners insurance premium jumped 33% from 2020 to 2023.
Grocery Prices. In California, grocery prices are higher than national average.
Income Taxes. Californa is #1 in Income Tax.
Sales Taxes: California has the highest state-level sales tax rate.
Sales Taxes along with added local taxes. Yup… #1 in the USA !!!

Fortuna City Council has been asked before to develop an ordinance to protect affordability in mobilehome parks and has consistently refused, even though the entire area surrounding the city, Humboldt County, has had such protections since 2017. The city council has sided instead with multi-billion dollar corporations exploiting seniors with unsustainable lot rent increases taking money out of the city to enrich stock holders while limiting discretionary spending within the city on local enterprises. Then they wonder why the movie theater, restaurants and specialty shops are closing…WAKE UP!! Over a hundred communities across the state have enacted rent stabilization ordinances for mobile home parks!

Royal Crest has lot of good folks that live there. The park its self is a joke. Besides high lot spaces residents haft to pay high utility bills. The park goes thru park managers at an alarming rate . Theres lots of people there that cant survie . I hope something can get done and help these people.
