Ukiah Man Dies After Arrest Near Orr Creek

This is a press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Death Investigation

On 02-26-2025 at approximately 7:40 P.M., Deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Brush Street in Ukiah, CA for a reported 9-1-1 hang-up.

Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call in the area of Brush Street in Ukiah, and nothing was heard on the line. Using GPS technology, the call was traced to the area of an apartment complex in the 300 block of Brush Street in Ukiah. Deputies responded to check for any signs of a disturbance or for anyone needing law enforcement assistance. While checking the area of the 9-1-1 call, Deputies encountered a subject who immediately fled the area upon observing law enforcement personnel. Deputies recognized the male subject from prior law enforcement contacts and had knowledge he was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS). Deputies pursued the adult male subject on foot but lost visual of the subject once he ran south of the complex and fled towards the apartments on North Orchard Avenue. The area was extensively checked for the subject with negative results.

Deputies continued to investigate the 9-1-1 call and reviewed video surveillance footage from the incident where the adult male subject fled from law enforcement. Upon reviewing the video surveillance footage, the male subject was positively identified as a 29-year-old male from Ukiah who was confirmed to be on active Post Release Community Supervision in Mendocino County. Deputies determined the male subject arrived at the apartment complex in a pickup that was reported as stolen to law enforcement in Contra Costa County. The stolen pickup was recovered and towed as a part of this continuing investigation.

After investigating the incident and reviewing all applicable footage, an order to arrest the adult male subject was issued to neighboring law enforcement agencies to include the charges of 496d(a) PC (Possession of a Stolen Vehicle), 148(a)(1) PC (Resist, Delay, or Obstruct a Peace Officer), and 3455 PC (Violation of Post Release Community Supervision).

On 02-26-2025 at approximately 10:15 P.M., Deputies responded to the area of the Orr Creek Bridge near Brush Street due to the Ukiah Police Department receiving reports of a male subject yelling in the creek area. This area is south of the apartment complex on Brush Street from the prior incident and in close proximity to the area where the male subject fled from Deputies earlier in the night.

Deputies, Ukiah Police Department Officers, and California Highway Patrol Officers all responded to the incident at Orr Creek to investigate and requested medical personnel to respond and stage in the area due to the nature of the call. Upon arrival, law enforcement located the 29-year-old male subject from the earlier 9-1-1 call and gave orders and commands for the subject to exit the creek. The male subject did not comply with the orders from Deputies, as a result law enforcement personnel entered the creek to arrest the subject and escort him out of the water and creek bed. The male subject was handcuffed and was exhibiting symptoms of an altered level of consciousness while being arrested.

Law enforcement personnel physically carried the male subject from the creek to the nearby bank and determined the subject was experiencing a medical emergency and became unconscious. Due to the medical emergency, the handcuffs were removed from the subject and numerous doses of Narcan were administered on the subject, who displayed a positive reaction to the treatment. Medical personnel were requested to the scene as the male subject continued to experience a medical emergency, so law enforcement continued life-saving measures on the male subject. Medical personnel arrived and continued emergency life-saving efforts on the male subject, who was immediately transported by ambulance to the Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Emergency Room.

At the emergency room, life-saving efforts continued for approximately 30 minutes until the 29-year-old male subject was pronounced deceased by medical professionals at 11:04 P.M. on 02-26-2025. Due to the circumstances of this incident, Detectives from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to take over the investigation and conduct the coroner’s investigation. The Sheriff’s Office contacted Investigators from the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office and administrators from other law enforcement agencies involved in this incident. The Mendocino County Officer-Involved Fatal Incident Protocol was initiated due to the decedent being in law enforcement custody at the time of death.

At this time, the official cause and manner of death is pending further investigation and a post-mortem examination (autopsy) has been scheduled for Monday 03-03-2025. This investigation will continue while awaiting the autopsy report and the results of other forensic examinations and tests. A Forensic Pathologist will determine the official cause and manner of death once the investigation has been completed.

The name of the decedent is being withheld at this time to properly identify and notify the legal next-of-kin for the 29-year-old male. Additional information will be released as it becomes available during this continuing investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident and investigation is requested to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office who is the primary investigating agency for this case. Information can be provided by calling the Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center at 707-463-4086 (option 1) and can also be provided anonymously by calling the non-emergency tip-line at 707-234-2100.

Shoulda left him in the creek then we wouldn’t have to hear all the whining and crying from activists and everyone else that is going to blame this on LE when he obviously killed himself with his life (or death) choices.

What crime did he commit that prompted the law enforcement chase/search ??????

He was on probation and subject to search — running from the cops was resisting or obstructing the cops and a violation of his probation — by the second time they encountered him it had been determined he was in possession of a stolen vehicle.

He killed himself — meth overdose and running from and/or fighting the cops was more than his heart could take — had he surrendered peacefully he’d most likely still be alive.

Anyone who takes the time to write negative things about someone who lost their lives is ugly.. ur heart is ugly. No one has the right to judge another for their life choices especially when it doesn’t affect u personally. Mind ur biz.. get a life. And let the dead rest in peace.

My friend wasn’t a bad guy. Life choices and circumstances don’t deserve a death sentence. This man was a good guy. He would’ve given any of u the shirt off his back so before u speak on someone u don’t know, understand that is someone’s child, friend, parent and then think of how u wouldn’t want someone to talk about ur loved one.. God bless everyone. And God bless my friend. May he shine in peace.

Post Release Community Supervision. By definition that sounds like something quite fancy. This is nothing against the particular probation or parole officers it’s more about the process of the system. Post Release communities supervision sounds like somebody’s going to be supervised and monitored. The intention is possibly to have some drug testing or follow up or make sure that something is happening yet the process does not yield to this. People are released out of the jail system with little if any plan for something. Being released out of jail or the prison system should be a privilege and you must have a job. Expectations. Sobriety. Yet these things do not happen. People Loop over and over again through the systems for years if not sometimes lifetimes like this man. There’s lots of money to be made in these systems parole officers jailers lawyers judges court systems etc etc everyone’s employed and has a job so there’s little incentive to flip the script. Yet, it is vital that we figure out how to flip the script. Years and years and years of Post Release Community Supervision and there isn’t really anything positive happening within those if you get a honest answer out of any of these probation or parole officers please how many 100% success rates do you have at 5 years out. We need to flip the script on the system and start figuring out how to affect change and worthiness within people instead of this every looping cycle. Rant over.

Well this is not the first time something like this has happened. The police know what really happened down there in that Creek and I’m sure it’s not what they said happened so I hope they’re happy! Now they can stay the f away from here. Their story does not add up. I was in the neighborhood. They never left between 7:00 and 10:00. They never left so the report is not like it’s like it happened so I’m sure his death was not like it happened either. You know how Mendocino county Police are and that’s please sheriff’s cops all of them. They don’t care about people’s lives. They probably did it because the story does not add up and I saw with my own eyes that they never left between 7:00 and 10. So now what?

I think it’s pretty pathetic that some people are so blindly perched upon their thrones of ignorance that they manage to convince themselves that they are somehow better (and less flawed) than someone else.. If we were talking about a convicted child molester or rapist these comments would be warranted.. But considering the stated facts it becomes clear that those with such highly over-credited self worth are lower than those they choose to judge by default.
It makes me ashamed to say I’m from a place where such outdated thinking is so abundant.. or did I miss where it said there was a child tied up in the back of the truck he stole? Come on..evolve a little!

Humm let me guess

Autopsy will determine he had swallowed a bunch of drugs so he could shit them out in jail and use/ sell them inside but they broke loose and he OD instead. My guess would be fentanyl but just a guess.

It’s quite red flag flying high that there are so many incidences of dead people in creek beds and cops being the only ones around

He was a good man he may have made bad choices but he would never harm anyone. he was a genuine soul with genuine struggles. what gets me is all the conflicting statements from law enforcement between this and other articles they cant keep their story straight or make it sencible either. i cant stand how corrupt law enforcement are. they killed him and thats the truth why hasnt an update been released following their autopsy yesterday? hmm probably trying to cover their own asses. he was a kid a little lost yes but not someone who deserved to die like this he was one of the happiest most loved people i have ever met

The entire article is a lie. The Mendocino County Sheriff murdered my friend Emil Redzic, and everyone knows it, but nothing is being done about it. This county is so damn corrupt; even the coroner is in on it.
First, they said he died of hyperthermia, which makes no sense because, yes, it was February, but it for sure wasn’t that cold. I was outside on the trail when all of this was going on, in a tank top, and I wasn’t cold at all.
Second, they stated that Emil’s official cause of death was an “accidental” acute combined methamphetamine and GHB toxicity.
#1. If he overdosed on methamphetamine and GHB, it wouldn’t have happened almost 2 hours later.
Come on, people, think…. None of this adds up!
About a week ago, I asked one of the sheriff’s if he was present when Emil was MURDERED, and his response was… Yes, he did everything he could to revive him, and for what it’s worth, “He was sorry for our loss… As he stood there gripping his flash light nervously until his knuckles turned white.
Emil didn’t use opiates, he was completely against them because his older brother died from an “accidental” opioid overdose in Contra Costa County a few years prior.
In my personal opinion, his family should look into getting a second autopsy from somewhere outside of Mendocino County because none of it seems to add up!
Emil wasn’t a perfect person but he would’ve given the shirt off his back to help anyone even if it left him with nothing.
My deepest condolences to his family and all of his friends.
Emil has touched so many people’s hearts and definitely will be deeply missed. Rest In Peace Emil Redzic aka Malibu’s Most Wanted!
