Harris Street at Redwood Acres Now Open as Firefighters Bring Up Containment on the Hill Fire

The Hill Fire, which began burning July 15 in the hills south of Willow Creek, is now being brought under control, allowing for the reopening of previously closed roads near Redwood Acres. As of yesterday, July 30, Harris Street at Hubbard Lane and Hall Avenue at Myrtle Avenue have been reopened to thru traffic. These roads had been closed since mid-July due to the establishment of the CAL FIRE Incident Management Base Camp at Redwood Acres.

Here’s what the camp looked like on July 23rd:

The initial closures, announced earlier by Humboldt County Public Works, were implemented to support firefighting efforts and ensure public safety. The statement indicated that the roads would remain closed “for at least the next two weeks” and could be extended depending on the situation. Fortunately, with the work of the firefighters, the Hill Fire’s containment has progressed significantly to 73% and personnel have dropped from way over 1000 to a total of 562 this morning.
