Orleans Ranger District Road Closures and Klamath River Use Restrictions

The following Forest Orders have been signed in relation to upcoming Karuk Tribe ceremonies. To provide for public safety, certain areas of the Orleans Ranger District within Six Rivers National Forest will be closed to the general public so that the Karuk Tribe may practice these ceremonies peacefully and safely.
“We ask for the public’s understanding and cooperation while the Karuk Tribe practices their cultural rights” said Nolan Colegrove, Orleans and Lower Trinity District Ranger for Six Rivers National Forest.
Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(b), and to provide for public safety, Orleans Mountain Lookout Roads are closed to the public. This Order is effective from 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on August 16, 2024. To view the current closure order including a list of exemptions and a map of the area, CLICK HERE.
Additionally, Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Orleans Ranger District of the Six Rivers National Forest. This Order is effective from August 15, 2024, through August 24, 2024.
- Launching watercraft in the following areas along the Klamath River
- Dolans Bar River Access Area.
- Orleans River Access Area
- Ullathorne River Access Area
- Possessing or operating a motorboat along the Klamath River beginning at the Dolans Bar River Access Area and continuing generally southeast to the Ullathorne River Access Area, including the Orleans Bar River Access Area
