CAL FIRE Determines Weed-Whipping as the Cause of the Adams Fire – Wheatland Man Arrested
Press release from the CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit:
CAL FIRE Law Enforcement arrested an adult male from Wheatland in connection to the cause of the 16-acre Adams Fire Wednesday afternoon off of Main Street in Lower Lake.
The subject was arrested and released with a notice to appear in court on three misdemeanor charges for violations of Health and Safety Code § 13001 as well as California Public Resource Codes § 4431 and § 4435.
The cause of the Adams Fire was determined to be the result of weed-eating in dry grass.
Given the combination of extreme heat, elevated fire conditions, and an abundant, cured grass and shrub crop across most of California, CAL FIRE will be instituting maximum enforcement on human-caused wildfires.
Lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, grinders, welders, tractors and trimmers can all spark a wildland fire. Defensible space work is critical to help create a perimeter around your home to protect it from a wildfire, but only when done under the right weather conditions. CAL FIRE officials urge the public to avoid any activities that might ignite a wildfire.
The Adams Fire started at 3:09 p.m. on July 3 near the 16200 block of Main Street in Lower Lake. It quickly spread in the 100-plus degree conditions in grass-oak woodland and multiple structures were threatened. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders for Zone LOW-E169 south of Main Street and evacuation warnings for nearby zones LOW-E170 and LOW-E176. All evacuation orders and warnings have since been lifted.
Thanks to an aggressive initial attack and air and ground resources, crews quickly contained the fire. The fire is now 90 percent contained and all roadways have reopened.
No residential structures were damaged or destroyed in the fire.
The CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit, Lake County Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office were in Unified Command of the Adams Fire.

So will they arrest Poppe every time PG$E starts a fire this year? Maximum enforcement should include the biggest fire felon in CA.
PRAISE “BOB”
Where can I get a weed whip?
I am tired of eating them
whip it, whip it good
CRACK THAT WHIP!
DEVO…
We are DEVO…… D E V O
They had some exciting music.
Whippet Pack !
Whippet pack
Just can’t trust those trimmers
OMG. They arrested this home owner for maintaining his property. Meanwhile some scumbag on parole for murder assaults citizens in McKinleyville. Great job Gavin, you are a hero.
Exactly. I am really puzzled how weed eating can cause a fire. The trimmer line is not metal. Hot motor in dry grass?
In the mean time as said above PG&E killed how many 90 plus in one fire a few years ago. A couple more killed in the daily city gas line explosion 15 years ago. All because they were pencil whipping their maintance records yet not one arrest.
Some trimmers are metalheads
Others prefer soft jazz or Christian rock, Beethoven, Mahler, anything goes. Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end.
Wow, you got a down-vote? Witty post deserved no downvote.
You are very kind. Sometimes we throw stuff against the wall and it doesn’t stick. Thank you. I can be offensive and annoying. Right now I’m working on the Donald Trump-Readers’ Digest Condensed Bible. Only 8 commandments. Adultery and “false witness”are OK. Sermons on the Mount, the Plain, Beatitudes. Proverbs; anything kind, merciful, honest all OUT!
San Bruno, not Daly City.
Faulty, unmaintained, or no spark arrestor on combustion engine comes to mind as possible cause.
IMHO 1: Trimmer slung a rock… which hit another rock… creating a spark.
About the same as the fire North of Ukiah (near the steakhouse) a few years ago. That was a lawnmower, steel blade hit a rock and created sparks.
—
IMHO 2: Got to work on the grass and brush before it get tinder dry.
—
IMHO 3: Bit of a cheesy arrest.
13001. Every person is guilty of a misdemeanor who, through careless or negligent action, throws or places any lighted cigarette, cigar, ashes, or other flaming or glowing substance…
Good lawyer will probably get that one dismissed.

California Public Resource Codes § 4431
During any time of the year when burning permits are required in an area pursuant to this article, no person shall use or operate or cause to be operated in the area any portable saw, auger, drill, tamper, or other portable tool powered by a gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine on or near any forest-covered land, brush-covered land, or grass-covered land, within 25 feet of any flammable material, without providing and maintaining at the immediate locations of use or operation of the saw or tool, for firefighting purposes one serviceable round point shovel, with an overall length of not less than 46 inches, or one serviceable fire extinguisher.
Probably have him on that one.

§ 4435
If any fire originates from the operation or use of any engine, machine, barbecue, incinerator, railroad rolling stock, chimney, or any other device which may kindle a fire, the occurrence of the fire is prima facie evidence of negligence in the maintenance, operation, or use of such engine, machine, barbecue, incinerator, railroad rolling stock, chimney, or other device.
If such fire escapes from the place where it originated and it can be determined which person’s negligence caused such fire, such person is guilty of a misdemeanor.
Good lawyer will probably get that one dismissed.
He should have been out stealing from retail stores. $900 per store and they let you just walk out and go home with it. A few of those and he could have paid some stupid fool who actually works to cut his grass and get arrested for it. This is where we are now in California….
I believe it’s anything under $950.00. Newsom said he thought it was $350.00 on a TV interview last month.
You can eat your weed and whip it, too. Is this a great country or what?
