Multiple Spot Fires Impact 299 This Morning

Smoke seen rising from a series of spot fires along Hwy 299. [Image from Alert California’s Oregon Mtn 2 camera this morning.]
Emergency units were rapidly dispatched to the scene. And the decision was made to set up one-way traffic instead of a full closure
At this point at 9:19 a.m., no flames are smoke can be seen though emergency vehicles are still on site.
For the latest information on road conditions and closures, visit the Caltrans QuickMap.
UPDATE 10:48 a.m. from Weaverville Fire: They report, “Upon arrival at scene, we found a total of twelve fires with slow to moderate rate of spread. Crews quickly contained all fires, and the cause was determined to be a dragging chain.” The fires totaled about two acres, the post says.
And like so many local fire departments, they are working a fundraiser to pay for the equipment that stopped the fire from spreading. “At this time, we are still planning to hold our Bar-B-Q Fundraiser at the Fire Hall after the parade,” They pointed out.

A series of spot fires like this is often the result of dragging chains or some other metal object from a vehicle.
Always check your load and be aware!
It can also be from a failed catalytic converter shooting super hot pellets out or from retreads coming apart and shooting off small pieces of super hot wire and rubber.
Or on purpose, under the guise of chains …
Make no mistake, California is, and has been, under attack by bad actors.

If you don’t have any evidence that your opinion is based on to begin with there’s not likely to be any evidence that will #changeyourmind
Dueling fallacies. Can’t prove a negative either.
In my opinion it is likely that at least some of these increasing number of fires are the result of deliberate acts. No evidence, but my day job involves studying malicious behavior and the shutting down opportunities that can be exploited .. not related to fire, but same psychology. Like school shootings .. the more we mediate on the threat the more it manifests.
Anybody who stumbles on an arsonist should do something about on the spot.
The 20 million illegal aliens that have invaded our southern border over the last 3 1/2 years are proven to include thousands of bad actors.
You do realize that this has been studied and disproven? As a point of fact criminality among immigrants is lower than natives.
Well okay — maybe that was your point, that out of 20 million we have a few thousand bad actors. I can go with that, even if it was 10,000 that’s only 1 in 20,000. Sounds like good people to me.
But do also bear in mind it was the GOP who — on Trump’s instructions — blocked the border bill that gave them everything they asked for. Maybe voting all the Trump cultists out of office would be the best way to move this (and a lot of things) forward.
More glue please…!
Ya those darn illegal aliens towing their boats and fancy camp trailers all over the place dragging chains. ?. Happy 4th anyway
Happy 4th indeed!
The holiday where we celebrate our national identity, rooted in violent terrorist immigrants who were dedicated to radical political action designed to change their adopted land to their liking!
To believe that chains being dragged is the cause ?
It’s generally known that truckers hauling highly flammable or explosive liquid fuels would have a chain dragging on the road to dissipate static electricity thereby avoiding an explosive disaster.
But sparks from the drag chain on rocks and pavement were implicated in wildfires. I don’t know if I was misinformed or if this still happens.
when I was working on a cattle ranch, we had to fight a nasty fire started from a tossed roadside cigarette. You could see the exact spot where the fire ignited and spread over the hillside like a fan.
We headed to Trinity Lake after work years ago. It was getting dark by then and we got behind a truck towing a boat that had one safety chain loose Sparks really fly from High carbon steel.
It actually looks like a sparkler firework.
to believe some numb nut could run up that hill in a few minutes and light 12 fires is short sighted. you do understand that every vehicle is now tracked on the highways, right. draggin chains is a great band name but should become a $1,000 fine.
Agree. No roads up that steep hill! 12 in a vicinity sounds like arson.
It gets confusing… I was merely responding to Gosh…It must be awfully expensive to tow a trailer or boat at today’s fuel prices. Have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.
Sure glad that no aliens (illegal of course) were coming over the border before that! Clue in bro!
We all know it’s nothing new but you’re talking apples and oranges…
1/3 more after a global pandemic that altered every economy in the world sounds about normal.
But the hundreds of millions of “immigrants” who are already here are the true bad actors.
Trump’s immigrant German family has wreaked utter destruction on our political system and promises much more. The evil of millions concentrated in one man. Destroy the nation that saved them!? We’re seeing it and living it.
What a depressing and negative opinion mixed with TDS. Let’s concentrate on OBiden’s Lawfare and election interference against Trump and Trump’s recent winning decision in the SCOTUS. Stalin would be proud of OBiden.
People who use the term “TDS” … smh
With a population of 341,814,420, who are the bad actior.
Keep smokin’ Joe. This is about dragging chains likely sparking fires, and you have to go sideways with it and make it about undocumented residents. Xenophobic much?

That is so weird. I went back and checked. The last time it was correct was in March. I don’t know why it was dropped. Fixed now.

::facepalm::
I really hope someone has spotted the driver towing a trailer with their safety chains dragging on the pavement a sparking fires. This topic is covered every single year and yet dumb ass folks just don’t care or bother to check their safety chains. If caught, they should pay the necessary amount of money it costs to put these fires out, or hand over their rig and trailer permanently to the authorities!
Maybe give them the death penalty!! Yeah!!! Once word got out I bet everybody would check their chains twice- maybe even three times!
Farce, your comment to me makes no sense. You someone to get the death penalty for dragging their trailer chains and setting spot fires?
