30 Minute Delays Continue on Hwy 36 (Video of Helicopter Operation)
Travelers in Humboldt County are experiencing ongoing traffic delays on Route 36 near Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park due to road work by a contractor for Caltrans. Initially, Caltrans announced delays of up to 30 minutes on Monday, July 1, for helicopter operations to set rockfall drapery netting on the smaller Grizzly Creek slide. However, unexpected fog has extended the work schedule.
In an update, Caltrans warned, “FOG ADDS ANOTHER DAY – Travelers in Humboldt County should continue to expect delays on Route 36 near Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park. We will have up to 30-minute delays today, Tuesday, July 2, due to fog delays. This will be for helicopter operations to set the rockfall drapery netting on the smaller Grizzly Creek slide.”
Caltrans said that further updates will be provided if planned delays are expected to exceed 20 minutes. Travelers are advised to plan for potential hold-ups as the roadwork continues today.
