Traffic Crawling on 101 North of Eureka

Traffic backup

Traffic is backed up following a vehicle mishap on 101 north of Eureka [Photo provided by Erick]

Northbound Hwy 101 has been at a crawl since about 4:30 when a vehicle lost a tire and was stuck blocking the number two lane near the Indianola Cutoff. Traffic is backed up to the Slough Bridge.

A reader told us it took “18 minutes to travel from Jacobs Avenue to the old Arcata Redwood Mill. Emergency vehicles and tow trucks have just arrived to find a car had lost a rear tire and partially blocking the slow NB lane just prior to the Indianola construction area. Traffic north of Indianola is flowing normally.”

Thank God we had an observant witness willing to put in the time and effort to time their progress. This is the kind of stuff that makes social media invaluable. Maybe if we stay tuned they’ll post a picture of what they had for dinner tonight.

Really? Lost a rear tire and couldn’t pull off to the side of the road? I watched some JACKASS drive ALL THE WAY through Mckinleyville with a shredded rear tire! Couple of weeks ago.

No tire is different from flat tire.

Going through Manila to catch the epic sunset at the beach as the sky cleared we wondered why so much traffic. Now we know. ( The beach was empty of humans as usual)

I guess the tire was old and just wanted to leave the wheel and try to kill someone. If that happens to you get the hell off the highway, please!
