Get ready folks, we are due for a big one, & multiple spots around the world are having 7.0 quakes. Our area (&most of CA) is about 70ish years past due on a big one, according to native kept chronology.

As Prof Dengler just wrote, floods are good practice for quakes.
We learned last winter, so are giant snowstorms!!
You will most likely be stuck at home with no power, cel or wifi. Are you ready?
As Dengler said, at that point we only have radio. Do you have one that works&batteries for it?
Some landlines may be able to access DSL at that point too.

One thing i learned the hard way in big quake: keep some slippers/shoes next to you under the bed as walking across broken glass really sucks!! &dont keep your bookshelf or the like across from the end of (or near) your bed.
Getting jolted awake to a giant quake is enuf without books flying across the room hitting ya in the head. (Yes this did happen to me in the Northridge quake in so cal. Crawled between my mattress&box spring& was 95% sure I was going to die)
Really, go look around your famikys bedrooms and see what heavy things could fly at or fall on the bed. You can get brackets made to hold things like tvs to whatever it sits on.

Anyone have some prep tips for quakes besides obvious of course?

One thing I learned, living many years in San Francisco, don’t put your bed under a window.

Also, plan where to quickly get under something strong, like a kitchen table. It will keep debris off your head and possibly save your life.

Don’t run outside. Power lines and such could be more dangerous than inside your house.
