The Deep Fire: 4198 Acres and 69% Containment

Pack mule trains supply firefighters in remote areas of the Deep Fire.
Press release from Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service about the Deep Fire burning west of Trinity Lake:
The Deep Fire is currently mapped at 4,198 acres with 69% total containment. Containment calculation is expected to increase as more data is gathered from aerial observation, infrared flights, and confirmation from field analysts.
Most of the perimeter is cold and secure. However, there is still some heat on the northern edge of the perimeter, so there will be aerial monitoring and bucket drops as needed. Crews on the western side of the fire will now be focused on suppression repair and backhauling equipment. Crews on the eastern side of the fire have almost completed backhaul operations. As conditions become warmer and drier over the next several days, smoke from interior heat may be visible.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuation warnings except for TRC-Zone 138 (see link below). Stuart Fork Trail is still closed to the public for safety while crews continue their work. Unneeded resources will continue to be released over the next few days. The team hopes and intends to turn the fire over to local units by early next week.Roads and trails are being repaired with resource advisors assisting to protect values at risk. Repair operations are nearly complete. Minimum impact suppression techniques (MIST) are being utilized in addition to Leave No Trace principles being employed in the wilderness.
WEATHER
Skies will be clear. Winds are predicted to be light, and temperatures are expected to rise over the next few days toward the 70s and 80s as part of a warming and drying trend.

Kind of a spooky lead-in. Two eyes staring at me.
I can see this beautie’s good spirit in those eyes. The eyes are the windows to one’s soul. I love these eyes.
The headline writer stepped away for a break.
I would like to see a story on these pack train animals.
I would love to see that too. This beautiful creature has a spirit that projects from those eyes. I love mules too. Would like to see a follow-up on them and how they’re being used to help fight fires.
The Humboldt Historical Society has many wonderful books that contain stories of these animals and pack trains. Drop by one day and check them out. I know you will be glad you did.
Lol kym you forgo to title this!
Fixed. Sorry.
Hee haw. Hero fire animals. Never quit!
Everyone should take a ride up to the Trinity alps or the Marbles at least once
Calling it god’s country doesn’t do it justice.
When I was young, my now husband then boyfriend hiked in the Marble Mountains. I was eager to impress and did not mention that my shoes were hurting me until my limping became obvious. When they were peeled off, we counted over 30 blisters and I mostly just lay around in camp healing until it was time to hike back out.
…And I still think of it as one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
Mules are truly beautiful animals. I love the mule’s eyes looking at me. Mules are strong and will work until they drop. Lots of great stories about the pack trains many, many years ago carrying just about everything for the gold miners through the rugged mountains. I would love to give that one a big hug and say thank you for all your hard work taking care of our firefighters.
